I just bought a 1987 Range Rover. I need to do a full rebuld. Does anyone having any suggestions as far as kit suppliers? What are some options along the way? ie 4.6 crank and rods. Is there any version of the 215 that has a better cam? Is there anything to look out for in particular on the 215 when rebulding? How about oiling mods are there h/v pumps that anyone recommends? I am guessing the buick 215 rebuild kits would be cheaper. Did layland make any modifications to the engine?

If you are planning a full rebuild, why not send the block to be bored out to fit the 94mm pistons used in the 3.9?
The 4.6 uses the same main-journal diameter as the 4.0, so you probably do not want to modify your block to fit the larger mains (e.g. weaker saddles and end caps).

Try www.aluminumv8.com
they may have undersized bearings fitting the 3.5/3.9 if your crankshaft can clean up at .010" under. Otherwise, for the time and money involved finding a "kit," you might as well pick up a 3.9/4.0 short block for around $1200.
