The heat in my 96 discovery doesnt work. If you leave the heat off for awhile you get a blast of heat for maybe 20 seconds. It also works first when you turn it on. This is a real pain in the ass. Any suggestions would help. Its cold and I need my heat.
Thanks
Sean

Thanks

Do you smell antifreeze?

Do you have any coolant left? Is it full?

Check the coolant level. Make sure you have level at full or near full. If it still doesn't give you heat, change the tstat. I just went through this couple weeks ago. Do a keyword search on thermostat or tstat and it should come up with threads that have pictures and part numbers for the thermostat. It's simple to do yourself.

If the t-stat doesn't work try using a garden hose and pushing water through the heater core. I noticed you said it will work for about 20 seconds so my thought would be no coolant flow. It is a simple test
1. Remove both heater hoses
2. Push water through with a hose
This will either push out whatever is in the heater core or tell you if it is plugged.
