Hit the pedal to the floor and keep the wheels straight. If you start to slide, close your eyes and click your heels three times and everything will be alright. :)

Just kidding, just don't go too fast because when these beasts start to slide, you're just along for the ride at that point.

If it's just powdery snow, it's no big deal, but it all depends on how deep and what's underneath. The snow, to me, feels a lot like sand. It provides resistance against your tires and requires some power to plow through if it's deep enough. If there is mud below, ice below, permafrost below, etc.......... It's going to change the ride. As you are down south, I imagine the snow will not be too deep. Like Alan says, take it slow in case there is ice, but as long as it's just snow, you will be okay as long as you drive according to the terrain below and the conditions.

Just my opinion based on limited snow driving since I moved up to PA from Texas and Georgia prior to that.

.... unless it's a 12" tree stump that's hidden under the snow and stopping your forward movement.

Drive deliberately but just as mud and water crossings, make sure you know what's under your vehicle... unless you want an excuse for a new axle assembly. I know someone who rolled his vehicle because of what was hidden under the snow.

Don't know how much this will be an issue but on roads that are well travelled, look for tire tracks with glares on them (ice). If you see glares, drive off to one side (move your truck about a foot in whatever direction is safer) where the snow is softer so your tires grip. If you find your truck is sliding sideways a bit, tap on the throttle lightly to get your tires to find grip and straighten itself out. And like Greg was saying, in the deeper stuff, treat it like mud/sand and maintain forward momentum to get through it...unless it's a tree stump and if it is, by then it's too late so get out and check if something looks "not right".

Thanks guys, just got back from a nice little run on a trail that is more a forest road than a trail really but has a limited amount of technical stuff if you chose to go find it. I was really more interested in the scenery than the wheeling this time but I had fun and it was a nice change of scenery.

Things this southern boy learned about winter weather:

1: Snorkels get clogged up w/ snow if you leave them pointed forward.

2: Rocks are very slippery when they get ice on them :)

3: It's nice to have two working windshield wipers (see the tech section)

4: Rednecks still like to drink beer and drive pick up trucks when its snowing

Didn't find a digital camera but I took some on 35 mm, I'll try and scan some when I get them developed.

Tends to happen once a year here in central Arkansas (first time I've had the time to wheel in it), happens a great deal more in the northwest corner of the state.

Safari Snorkel

True, true, thankfully the ones I saw were content to just sit on their tailgates and drink (glad I wasn't around afterwards though)

they went on and on about how I wasn't going to be able to make it up the hill they were at the bottom of, kept saying they just slid all the way down and I shouldn't try it. I shot the shit with them for a minute and then crawled right up it. :)

We got about 6 inches last night...my mother is in visiting from South Mississippi and helping with wedding plans. I took her out for a 'Land Rover Driving Experience'...she was freaked out but it was FUN!

Well, since this is back at the top I guess I'll add some pics (they should be in my gallery next time Ho updates it as well). Like I said nothing crazy, I didn't have the time to drive very far away and was more concerned w/ the scenery anyway.

With the Disco...........

Up in the poconos on a trip with the ROVERS club. I was there a few weeks back and there was around 24" of snow on the ground. Don't know what to expect this trip as we've had a couple of good snows since then.
