Finally got my disco 2000 paid off and can put some extra money into my 91 classic. I have allready upgraded my suspension with OME springs, bilstein shocks and 245/75/16 tires. I use the vehicle for moderate-heavy off roading (mostly in southern Utah). My question is what should I do next...rock sliders (what type) or steering rod protection? cneal. |

you have lots of options; if i were going to be in the rocks a lot I'd worry about the steering links, tie-rods, and rear-trailing links. there's a set of rear HD rockware links on sale right now for $125 - pick up RTE's front steering rods and forget about "protection" plates. others have said the DAP HD units work very well for the price. after that, I'd begin looking also for a rear skid for the gas tank, and a skid also for the catalytic-converters/transfer case. not that i've done a damn bit of any of this stuff . . . it's all on the dream list all the sliders do is protect your sheet metal and help the doors - i'd make sure the truck can stay driveable first, and then worry about the other stuff like sliders and bumpers. just my .02 - |

IMHO, you should get the sliders first...You are more likely to bend your doors/sill than your tie rods(i know i hit my sliders way more than my SG rock guard.) FWIW, I have stock tie rods, with a rock guard kit (which covers the rear tie rod). I also have a skid plate up front which helps protect the front tie rod. Well, i just finally bent my front tie rod this last weekend, so i ordered the RTE tie rods.... Maybe this will give you an idea as to what order you should make your purchases.... |

I have a steering guard which I have never hit. Only after I screwed up my door panel did I get sliders. I regret not buying sliders first. BTW if you don't have diff. guards then get those before the sliders! |

Good advice. After thinking about it, I also think that my door panels and seals are probably more vulnerable than my steering rods. Sterring rods are less costly to replace. I'm going to go for the rock sliders and diff. guards first. I plan on doing the work myself. Is there one type that is better/easier to install than another? cneal. |
