We recently bought a preowned certified Land Rover Disco II with 52k miles. It has similar loud drivetrain 'thumps and clunks' as our previous '96 Disco. However, the drive train sounds occur more frequent and happen sometimes while accelerating and upshifting as opposed to the usual sounds being set off when letting of the gas and resuming throttle as in our old '96 and in other Discos we've driven. Service Manager says the transfer box is causing the noise in the drive shaft and rear...it is normal. I agree some drive train noise on Discos are normal as we have driven other Disco (loaners) furnished by the dealer over the years...we are interested to know if any Disco II owners have been through this and what was the resolution if any? New drive train components? Doesn't seem we are getting anywhere with Service Manager.

move one or two heads up the todempole...thats the reason you paid for a LR preowned certified vehicle...go over his head and make a stink till your happy

drivshafts should not make noise,if the rear is making noise it may have a worn ring&pinion
either way your not happy and you most deffinitly paid extra to get it as a "certified" used car

good luck

good luck...i'd tell you the squeeky wheel gets the grease...but if you are squeeky at a LR dealer sometimes you get swivel lubed
