Anyone have pictures of a disassembled transfer case? Mine is f'd up and I need to either repair or replace...just wanted to see what I was getting into before I did it.

The LT 230 is simple and straight forward..If you have even a little bit of mechanical skill it will not be scary at all///
Take your time and take pictures if you are not familar with gearboxes...
Three shafts.. Three sets of gears and a diff.. It's very simple..
Lemme know if you chose to scrap it i have a need for a "pattern" case ;)

Yeah, I found an exploded view [diagram] of the LT 230 earlier. I've worked on manual transmissions (won't touch automatics) a few times so I didn't think it could be anymore difficult...a transfer case is basically just a 2 speed transmission and not too much more complicated than a differential. I'm sure it's gonna be more of a pain to take out than repair. My Haynes manual suggested to take the transfer case out with the transmission...Is this really the best or only way or both?

Heck never take out what you don't have to, but there is the tricky part of partially
dis assembling the t case to take it off the ••••••... I would be tempted to just drop the whole unit for t case repairs... Then again I wouldn't drop anything unless I pulled all the access covers to see if your problems could be repaired in the vehicle, it's very possible!... What exactly is wrong?

While in neutral (automatic) there is a slight tick/clicking sound that seems to come from the e-brake drum or the very rear of the T-case and when it is put in drive it grinds severely. While driving there is a noise that turns into a severe grinding when I let off the accelerator. I put the Disco up on four jackstands and ran it while off the ground and listened to everything from underneath to tell where the sounds were coming from.
