Within the last year I purchased a 95 discovery for my wife, then fell in love with her's and bought one for myself. 95 as well. Her 95 was
involved in an accident with myself in the vehicle
in which my side was struck putting me in the hospital for a few days. The state police here in Pa. stated if it wasn't for the Discovery's ability to take a hit like it did i probably would not be continuing to read Discoweb everyday trying to absorb all the techincal information i could. Sorry for the long post. I turned into a roverholic, and am proud to say so. I do have a technical problem. This morning i changed my distributor cap, rotor and wires. I checked and re-checked my connections and cannot get the vehicle to start. Getting fuel but no spark. Spark plugs were changed last week. Upon changing the wires i disconnected the vacuum advance. It made a sound like it opened, i contined to work. I reconnected everything, am able to smell fuel, but seem to get no spark. Any ideas would be helpful please. I've done routine maintainence on my other rover that passed on so to speak and never encountered a problem like this.
Im proud to say i change my oil, brakes, love
getting my hands dirty, not to mention my driveway. Since the passing of my wifes Discovery
i found her a beautiful 97 lse, which leaves a lovely pattern of p.s. fluid droplets wherever it's parked. Mine is currently leaking nothing, being as i can't start it yet...

Joe,
Once upon a time, I changed the same on a TR6 and it wouldn't start either. After checking everything, turns out the new dist. cap was defective, with a hair line crack. Just enough to prevent ignition. If everything is connected properly, it could be the new components have a fault somewhere.
Glad to hear you're ok, these things are built like tanks.
Good luck,
Jack

I had the same problem...I HOPE yours isn't what mine was, when I pulled the rotor and points thing, I accidently did so with too much pizazz and popped the spindle gear out of whack, up out of the gears it turns with to provide the timing...had to take it to a shop, BUT I could tell immediately what I did, as I couldn't QUITE get the rotor down to the seemingly correct logical level, and it wouldn't start either...I ended up taking it to a shop, and watched and tried to figure out how we fixed it, in the end, we ended up totally resetting the timing after FINALLY getting the rotor arm and counterbalance within the distributor back to where they went, it took FOREVER and was rather delicate. I would not have been able to do it, were it not for the extra eyes, hands, tools, and a factory workshop manual and immense experience of my mechanic friends, neither of whom had seen anything like it happen before. Happily though, I haven't tried to do it since, and haven't had to, but probably will soon...
