Hello from France and excuse my language. I have a Disco 2 300TDI and I would like to know the exactly capacity of the automatic gear box ZF 4 HP 22 (different technical revues give me different information 5.4l-8.2l-9.8l ??) and if the operation of oil change isn't a problem. Thanks for your advices. |

Laurent, On a fluid drain only (no filter) you'll need just under 3l. Its not much more when replacing the filter. the capacity of the auto is 10l, but you'll never be able to get that amount drained as most of the fluid is retained inside the 'box. |

Chris, If I understand you correctly, the capacity of the gear box is 10L,but I don't change all the fluid for a drain - only 3 L . But sometimes, it isn't preventive to change all the oil ? my Disco has 130 000kms - Or it is impossible without to put down the gear box.

You may be able to find a shop that can pump new fluid in while pumping old fluid out. But easier way is just to change it twice or three times yourself. You can actually drain almost 5 liters. So one change = 50% new atf; second change a week later = 75% new atf. All a shop will normally give you is 50% new, and all the cars and trucks on the road are surviving on that (if their owners are nice enough to have ever changed it). Just talked with my neighbor about replacing the radiator in his truck. He wanted to know why his antifreeze was brown instead of green. Turns out he has never changed it in 120,000 miles! Whatever you do to your atf, it will thank tou for it. John |
