Can someone recommend a trustworthy mechanic other than the LR dealer for future work on my 1999 Disco SD?

I happen to work in the area and live in NC. It would be more convenient to have work done here in VA.

I'm from the area, what do you need done? Maintenance, upgrades, tranny or engine work? And what do you do commute everyday?

Al,
I currently do not need any work done on my Disco. But if the need ever arised, I'd like to have a trusty person to whom I could take my vehicle. In the future, I'd like to modify for off-roading. And I do simple things like, tune-ups and oil changes myself. The more complicated things that involve tools I don't have get passed on to the pro's.

I work at DSCR in Richmond as a sub-contractor doing UNIX admin stuff.

YOU?

KM:
There's a guy over here in C'ville named Mike who has a little shop and seems to specialize in English vehicles and such. He's not into enthusiast stuff, be he's really good on minor and major repairs, thorough and fair, and always willing to give advice. It's only an hour drive from southside. I've had my 99 DII in with him a few times and been very pleased with the work and price.

K, I'm an admin too at ipctech.com in Richmond. I'm not sure where DSCR is but I'm off of glenside. Anyway, for tranny work there is Weaver transmission in Mechanicsville, 4 wheel drive specialty for mods and such, John at rovertym for lifts and product installs, a few other sources depending on what's broke. Drew who also works for John at times is a certified landrover mechanic. That's the short list, if you need a hand or just need an opinion about something local just drop me a line.

Thanks, I'll keep those listed in mind.

DSCR= Defense Supply Center Richmond

No jobs in the Raleigh area (or very little) so I had to take something up here. I was part of the Nortel layoffs. I only commute back on the weekends. Thanks again.

Hey there,

I live in Richmond and am about to become a Disco owner...and I am loving this website. So much to read. Anyway, what is your take on the LR dealership on Midlothian?

I purchased at LR Greensboro, but I live in C'ville, so I've had all my warranty/recall work done at LR Richmond. They've been efficient and generally positive. I just turned 40k and I've spent about $600 at the dealer so far. On the last visit, however, I had a new radiator and throttle body installed they forgot to "re-clip" all of the clips on the breather/intake and they didn't tighten the little plastic fitting on the PS intake manifold. I caught it right away, but it was a bit annoying. I do a fairly complete check of the vehicle before leaving the lot each time.

Thanks for the info. I've only interacted with the sales staff, and they impressed me with their knowledge and honesty.

I was in there last nite, and bought a 2000 Disco SD; so I'm psyched to pick it up - hopefully if my bank is speedy - in the next day or two.

Outside of NoVA, is LR Richmond the only dealer in Virginia? There must be something out towards VA Beach?
