did you apply some anti-squeel to the back of the pads when you installed them? it helps. D1 or D2?

In addition to gp's suggestion, there are some companies which sell the anti squeal pads/shims as a seperate sale item. You can also use them. I had the same problem with the rear pads on mine and installed the shims after the anti squeal goop didn't work to my satisfaction. There weren't rover specific shims available so I bought the largest they had and cut them down to fit.

When you guys say shim, is this a LR specific part or just a (.003" - .010") shim stock and cut to shape?
My D2 has new rotors and pads all around at 46K and after 1K miles, it squeals at times specially when braking at low speeds like doing a California stop.

No, I did not apply any anti-squeal. can it be applied without removing the pads again? mine is a D2. someone recommended to softly rub the rotors with a very fine sandpaper! do you guys recommend that?

I just did my rears this weekend - I used Wurth anti-squeal spray on the back of the pads, and so far (fingers crossed) no squealing yet....

Couldn't do the fronts cuz I couldn't get the damn wheels off the rotors!!! They were on solid!!!

But you will have to take off your brake pads and apply the stuff on the backs of the pads...

Sorry!!! Did you have a hard time getting your wheels off??

Will

Jorge, What kind of pads? Ferodo (sp?) pads are OEM pads for the D2 and have an anti-squeal backing on the pads already. I'm guessing these are not Ferodo?

I may get flamed for this but here's what I do and I've never had squealing brakes-

Before I put my pads on vehicle I:

Get a Coke or other aluminum soft drink can and cut pieces to make into shims for backs of each pad.

Glue shims to backs of pads with JB weld, remove excess, and apply pressure to shims overnight ( I C-clamp them back to back with sheets of paper between backs and with cardboard over pad area).

For overkill I'll use CRC Disc Brake Quiet on backs before installing-

NO SQUEALS

My trucks rear breaks used to squeal and squeck at low speeds when my foot was off the pedal, i changed to genuine pads with the shims but to no avail. finally used disc brake quiet, and that did the trick. gotta recommend it

I have come to the conclusion that there is no fix, I just let them squeak and have ceased to care about it. Whenever someone points it out to me I say "It's British" they either say "ohhhhhhh" in an understanding way or stand there bewildered which I have also ceased to care about :-)

my D1 rears are squealing too after new pads. took them back off and put some anti-squeal on the back of the pads. it helps, but still a little squeal. my D2 did the same thing after pad replacement. is this just poor caliper design or what?
