Can an ordinary key shop repair this problem? Or do I have to go to the dealer? |

Door Key can not lock the door? Does it at least turn? Either way, take it to a dealer. Either the key is bad or the inner locking mechnisum is fuxor. |

Ray: It depends upon what has happened. There are a number of small plastic components which individually actuate different parts of the locking and alarm system on our trucks. As they age, the metal mechanical components corrode, increasing the friction to the point that some of these plastic parts can break. Tell me more about what it does/does not do? Does the key turn very easily with little to no resistance? Does it arm/disarm the alarm? The bad news is that the individual cams cannot be purchased separately. The good news is that there are some boneyards that have the parts and very rarely, the entire assemblies are found on eBay. Paul |

Paul, the key turns left and right with no resistance when the door is unlock. However if I use the remote control to lock the door Im able to use the key to unlock it but not locking. |

Ray: Open up the door panel. I strongly suspect that one of the two cams that ride on the lock cylinder have failed. What almost assuredly has happened is that the mechanical arms became corroded and the cams broke due to the increased resistance. From what you have described, it sounds as though the cam which is driven directly by the lock cylinder has failed. When you open the door up, remove the lock assembly from the door and you will be able to see how the cams ride against a micro-switch and from there to the mechanical arms. You may even find little pieces of the assembly on the bottom of the door! I have had to replace both of the cams on the drivers door. Paul |
