Hey Disco Web clan

I just got back from the local dealer and was looking at their fairly wide selection of 99s and 00s that have mostly come off lease and been bought at auction. We've just about decided to get one and already worked out what they'll give for our trade. We just have to decide from the many possibilities.

I'm hoping you can give me some insight into a few burning questions I have.

First, I like the Disco II over the Disco I but my SO likes the lower entry fee of the D1. I'd like to know if the series 1 is less dependable, less expensive for parts or what. How do they compare? Same gas mileage and all?

Here's real general stuff on the trucks I'm considering. All have clean Carfax reports.

99 Blue Discovery I, 45k miles $19,500 and certified. The SO's lower $ choice.

99 Black Discovery II, 40K miles $22,500 and certified.

00 Gold Discovery II, 45K miles $25,500, certified and quite loaded with Traction, ACE and heated everything. I'm thinking the ACE might help with the very twisty canyon we go through to get home each day. Should I avoid that option though?

A lot of D2s are coming off lease and can be found for thousands less than at non-Rover dealers. Here's an example with a clean Carfax.

99 Dark Red Discovery II, 35K miles and $17,500

So what is the "certified" program at the LR dealer worth?
In your experience are LR dealers very negotiable on their prices?
If I buy a Disco from a small non-LR lot can I still buy the LD factory extended warranty for $1,600? I was planning to buy with an extended warranty.

Thanks for the time!

The D2 is a bit more refined. If you want a truck for wheeling go for the D1. The D2 has an omipresent computer that controls many of it's functions and that makes it a bit more difficult to work on yourself.

I bought a 99D2, 26K for $22,750. (ACE, jumpseats, rear air, pretty loaded) I like the D2, because of the way the jump seats are set up. I have two small boys and it met my needs (wants)

Hope that helps, I'm sure others will chime in, no lack of opinions around here.

I have almost the exact same truck as one on your list (01 Gold D2 w/35K miles and ACE). Love the ACE package. Absolutely incredible product. Don't know much about the DI. Bought mine from the dealer w/ 7500 miles on it and it was certified. That has been a pretty cool deal so far. No major problems. Oh yeah, I do quite a bit of off roading. I've done several mods too...

IMO, '99 and '00 D2's are fine and better on road than the D1. But if you want to off road I would consider the D1. Axels are easier to repair as are ABS sensors. I would be willing to say that all 3 are as reliable but ACE problems would be more expensive to fix should the ACE fail. I haven't had any problems with my ACE D2 and I haven't seen many failures outside of the recall done in 2000. That's not to say that they don't fail.

Bottom line, if you're the one driving it, buy the one you like. My 2 cents are... if you're not going to take it off road then the D2 but if you're making this a trail vehicle then get the D1.

The D2 will do well off road if you fit a CDL but IMO the D1 is a little better because of the CDL, better axles and shorter rear overhang. The ETC on the D2 is nice but from my experience so are the other features on the D1.

Hmm.

That Dodge *did* made a pretty good "Ram" afterall. H2-NO!!! don't look so good.

So how about the LR dealers dealing question? I'm not one to pay asking price but have never dealt with a LR operation.

Thanks!

i like the wrinkles in the roof on the h2...sure, it looks like a big hit for both, but with all the "piss" that thing is allegedly made of, i would have thought better...
