I have soo many problems, or so I think. Anyways, I was off-roading and got stuck in sick soft mud, and it high centered. I had it in locked diff, and I noticed that when I was spinning the wheel, not all 4 of the wheels where spinning. Is that a sign of problem with the diff?

unless you have lockers all four wheels aren't supposed to spin at once.

just for the record:

quote:

that is a false statement. depending on conditions ALL four wheels can have power, may times i've been stuck in slick mudd and had all four going but the car didnt move because it was hung up.

with center diff locked you will have at least one tire per axel spinning when you give it gass. a locker can turn than into both tires or versions of that.

One tire per axle equals 2 tires which is still 2 tires away from being four. I said "unless you have lockers all four wheels aren't supposed to spin at once.", I am aware that a locker gives both wheels on the axle power. When was the last time you've seen an open diff truck spinning all four wheels???

Ho,

"personally like detroit rear and TT front"

What is your thinking here. I have always thought ARB front and rear.

Gotcha, you don't like th noise ;-)

I understand the advantages of the TT up front vs a full locker (I believe). Still don't understand the differences of the detroit vs ARB.

You were waiting to say that I could tell ;-)

I found some stuff on the EE web site and have not had the time to research the ARB vs Detroit. Will do when the time comes, but was just being a bit lazy and thought that I would ask.

Cheers

Carter, you must have grown up in north Louisiana. In southern LA, the mud is so goopy I've seen open diff trucks spin the spare.

Yankee.

nope, Southern LA (just north of Baton Rouge). Granted most the guys I've gone out with were locked but I've still never seen it.

I've never really seen a spare tire spinning. Or all 4. Just fooling around.

But north of Baton Rouge still makes you a Yankee.
