My old rangie with matched ome hd springs is listing slightly to one side in the front about 1/2", thinking about putting a 10 mm trim packer on top of coil, looks like there is enough room in the top spring seat for the trim packer without the chance of the coil squirting out, and if so the shock is still in the middle and should maybe stop it from happening?. I know EE's website said not to do this in the front, but anybody done it and if so any problems?

All comments welcome and appreciated.

I'd be curious too. I ran into a guy with a 97 d1 that told me he put 1/2" spacers on top of his ome medium duty lift to compensate for spring sag. I should have climbed under to check it out but I was in a hurry. He did it when he installed the springs new. Only problem was he truck looked like it never saw the offroad, so I don't know if he had problems when it flexed. I saw the EE thing and have wondered how he did the spacers in the front. How are you planing to get those 10mm's to work?

If I do it, I will remove the bottom shock bolt, remove the shock tower with the shock, compress the spring just enough and put the trim packer on top of the coil. The trim packer will sit between the top of the coil and the top spring seat.

You should put the "packer" on top of the spring. LR part# ANR2938 is 10mm thick and will go on top of the spring. Another LR part# RBC100111 is also 10mm thick, but also includes the metal ring and bolts which holds the shock tower in place. It also has a rubber "drop out cone" which will prevent the spring from popping out if if gets dislocated up to about 20mm. So this part does what you are looking for; reduces spring noise, adds 10mm, holds the shock tower in place and keeps the spring from falling out(and it goes on top).

I would also fab a small spring retainer for the front also. Just a small rectangle that has a hole for the bolt(which holds the spring plate to the axle), and the rectangle should clamp onto the bottom rung of the spring. That should keep everything together for normal off-roading.

Ideally you should tune the shock and spring travel to optimize articulation. Easier to engineer in the front but harder to change. In the rear it is easier to modify, but harder to engineer because of the angle of the shock.

Thanks for the info Andy and Randall.

Looks like the ome 10 mm trim packer and anr2938 basically do the same thing. I will probably install the ome 10 mm trim packer on top of the front spring, and while the car is on jack stands, try to fully articulate the axle to see if there is a chance that the spring will squirt out with the trim packer in place.

Anyone please stop me from doing this if you see any problems.

I have 10mm spring packer on top of both of my front RTE +2" HD springs with an additional 10mm spring packer on the bottom of the passenger side spring. Not had any problems with shifting or popping out in over a year. Pretty heavy articulation at times and no problems.

Thank you everybody for the comments, looks like it shouldn't be a problem to put the trim packer up front.
