Lots of posts in the archive about people complaining about rear door seal problems, but nobody reporting success in solving the problem

I have a 2001 D2 with the top of the rear door seal leaking like a sieve when it rains.

What have you guys done successfully in the past?

I'm contemplating adjusting the door clamp post fore-ward (thanks archive) or applying some adhesive rubber strips to the top of the door to better mate with the door seal.

If everything else fails, I will take the rig into the dealer and make them deal with it. It's a warranty issue as far as I'm concerned.

Any other ideas?

If it's still under warranty the dealer should fix it. That is a fault in the design and not a user inflicted problem. I had a problem with the window seal on the back door. Is that the problem? If it's the actual door seal, I would recommend not putting the rubber strips on unless you take it all the way around the entire door. If you just put a strip, say at the top of the door, it will actually make it worse because of the gaps that will be at the end of the rubber strips. Follow?

What year is your Disco? D1, D2? I haven't seen this problem in mine (96 D1).

Craig,
My 2000 D2 just started leaking from what sounds to be the same spot. Actually in 2 places top of the door and then again on the inside by the rear wiper blade. I have an appointment next week with the dealer for this i'll let you know what happens. This is warranty work for me also.

Just got back from Sears, where I picked up a Torx set so I could adjust the loop that the door latches onto when it closes.

Simple fix: Unscrew the two torx-head screws, tap the loop forward, and tighten the Torx screws back down

I made this adjustment while it was dark out, but I had someone else shine a flashlight around the door seals, and no light came in, where clearly light came through in 2-3 spots at the top of the tail door seal.

It's supposed to rain again tomorrow, so we'll see how my fix worked out.

Hey all,

I had previously seen on a rover site something about forcing a length of tubing into the door seal to make it have more bulk. FWIW, just my sighting, not tried as of yet.

Amazing that this post came about. I had my rear door hinges changed for new ones because of door lean. Anyway, since then, the leaking is occurring when it rains and when I hand wash the vehicle. The fun started when I took it through a drive through automatic car wash...buckets of water into the back load area from the top of the door. Called dealership about refix and will let you know.

I have an air leak around my right rear side door. Could this be a similar problem as your rear door? I haven't noticed water leaking in, but it is noisey as hell when going down the freeway. I planned to take it to the dealer next week for repair as it's under warranty, but thought it may be an easy adjustment.
