Who was it here that made the CB mounting piece that allowed the CB body to be attached to the transmission tunnel? I searched the R-Chives and no luck...

Ok, well without having that mounting bracket, how would you mount the CB radio body to the transmission tunnel and route the wires for power and the antenna to it and from it?

i just used the standard bracket that came with my CB and used short sheet metal screws that went into the transmission tunnel. then i routed the wires under the center consol and behind the CDL and behind the dash. the antenna i routed under the carpet and all the way back to the rear cargo area.

Christian
I mounted my CB by pre-drilling holes in the plastic lip that comes down the console on the passengers side for the supplied bracket. Used bolts and washers to attach the bracket. Depending on how heavy your CB is you may want to add a backing plate. For power, I'm just using a cigarette plug. My antenna is on my front bumper with the wire routed under the passanger side carpet to then under the door sill, then thought the quarter panel to the bumper.

for those of you that hard wired your CB, how did you do it? I am assuming that the lighter is the easiest power source - please correct me if I am wrong. There is a harness into the back of the lighter with a black wire and white/green wire. There is also a red wire (which only powers the bulb - I think). Anyway, is the white/green hot? How the heck do you get back there to splice in?

You can tap the lighter circuit, but I think that you would have better luck going directly to the battery. That would give you "cleaner" power. I ended up going directly to the battery and using ferrite beads close to the radio.

Just wire to the battery directly.

That way you eliminate a lot of potential electrical noise generated by the alternator, and you can still use the radio even when the rig is turned off.

If you're worried about battery drainage problems, just install an inline blade fuse and remove the fuse when not in use.

Christian,
Sorry to be late in the discussion. Been really busy with work. I still have some brackets left. What style Disco do you have? SI or SII? Drop me a line directly if you are still interested.

The rack is taking longer than planned, as usual. Our manufacturing has been swamped since mid December, so I haven't been able to squeeze my stuff in. We've produced eight (8) custom chassis prototypes in the last six weeks, so I have been staring at my screen for many a day.
I will drop you a line when all is done.

Christian:

I have a Uniden PRO538W, it has a front speaker which works great. Got it for $58 and have been very happy with it.

These guys seem to have some of the best prices for CB stuff.
