Umm, I have never seen the service engine light on red

I service engine light ( which is the emmisions reminder) is orange

The "check engine" light is red, and means there is something the computer is picking up as "wrong"

remember, "wrong" in the computer's mind, is not nessesarily something really bad

All NAS Rovers have a red service engine and an orange check engine light. The service engine light does come on at given intervals as a "reminder" of your emissions check.

well, mine is red? I dont know if they have multi color (amber, red) displays? or if the different color indicates different problems. If you know the answer to this, please let me know!

There are two seperate warning lights and one is amber, the other red. The amber lamp can be turned on by the ecu if it detects an emissions fault. The red lamp comes on after elapsed mileage and needs to be reset. The unit is under the rf a-pillar kick panel. If you do a search, I am sure you can find the details to reset this yourself.

Plain and simple: all NAS Discos have ORANGE "Check Engine" lights. i'm not so sure about the "Service Engine" light. The LR manual states that any warning light that is red is bad news. Any light that is orange or "amber" is just a warning.

Is there anything noticably wrong with your rig? How and when did this light come on?

If you have an Autozone in your area, go there and have them check the codes with an OBD II code reader for free (if indeed this is for an orange or amber "check engine" light).

I was told by LRCS that if the check engine light was flashing it was important. The service engine light in my defender came on at 105,000 miles(red) which is a regular service interval for the emission system. Both the check engine and the service engine lights can be turned off by you. I'm not sure where the reset is in a disco.

I was interested in knowing if you know if there are multi colors for this emissions light or if the red color is standard? I will not worry about it if the color red is standard, as the car has 110,000 miles. It is running fine. who knows?

Okay,

It depends on if it is a D1 or a D2.

On a D1, the red "Service Engine" light is just triggered by a mileage timer... there's a box into which you can push a straightened paperclip via a small hole under a LR sticker, closing the contacts, and the light will extinguish. The orange "Check Engine" light means that a code was thrown. If an OBD-I, there's a display box under the passenger seat. If an OBD-II, you plug a reader into the port under the steering wheel. If the "Check Engine" light flashes, it's saying that it is something serious.

On a D2, they've been combined into one light, it's no longer separate.

FWIW...

Disclaimer: that's for NAS V8 Rovers..... I don't know about Td5 diesels or other markets...

Darn, I wish I'd found this board earlier...spent last weekend figuring out how to disassemble the instrument cluster to remove the red light :-) Oh well, at least I can absolutely guarantee that the red light will never come on again on my disco!

Incidentally, the local dealer wanted $240 for an emission inspection or $80 to reset the light! Interested whether this highway robbery occurs at all Land Rover dealers?
