I checked the archives, and a couple of you guys have had this problem, but there is nothing addressing how you resolved it. The ticking under the glove box is driving me batshit. How'd you guys fix it? I'm hoping the blower motor doesn't need to be replaced. It works fine, just sounds like relay noise. Any of you guys resolve this?

Hey Matt, I haven't had the chance to get to it. It drives me crazy too but I have been just turning up the radio. I need to get under there and look, once the time becomes available! I'll post what I find. Let me know if you find out something before me. Thanks! Ken |

Does the problem go away if you give the engine some gas or turn the blower on higher? The post does not specify DI or DII but I have a DII and had noises from mine, replaced fan and all good. I had the symptoms mentioned above. |

Eric, Mine makes more noise the faster it goes. Funny thing, yesterday and this morning no noise at all. I am still going to check it out and see if anything is in there.

Mine has/had crap and dust in the vents, and thats what was making it tick and whistle. As soon as I figure out how to get IN THERE, I'm sure it will go away. Sounds like wind noise rather than electrical or mechanical. Blower increase makes it stop or change enough that its not as annoying... |

Is this noise affected by the air temp coming out? Does it make more noise when its cold and settle down when hot air is pushed out? If so, you have the beginnings of the bearing failure in the motor assembly. If not, chances are you have some foreign material in the fan box, leaves & sticks have the ability to get into there if you do no keep the cowl clean of debris on you truck...

Guys, thanks fo rall the responses. It is a 96 D1, and it ticks regardless of air temperature. When I step on the gas, for maybe tow seconds it goes away, then comes back. If I turn the fan up high, I can't hear it -- it does sound like some debris is in there. I took out the cardboard crap and dug around alot but couldn't find anything. There's no place for anything to be. And just like Ken said, sometimes (1 time out of ten) the noise doesn't appear. This weekend I'm going to have to pull the blower motor out, I guess. I was trying to avoid that--it's pretty tight down under there. I was hoping somebody had quick fix, like some pixie dust or something. |

I too have the same problem. It is rather cramped down there. Eagerly awaiting a post for how to resolve the problem. |
