Has anybody run out and bought plastic and duct tape to prepare for the terrorist attack?

I'm not buying into that, I figure, that by the time you find out, it will be too late...

Plus, I just counted I have 28 windows, two doors and a sliding glass door. Maybe I should start now. Might take me awhile.

what would you use plastic and duct tape for? There's no way you could really seal out anything, what about the front door when you need to get in, the vents, the back door for the dog, and not to mention all the nook and crannies.

Outside of a sterile bubble, there's not way to really be safe from airborne contaminates.

Is that the strategy? Wow....guess I am in trouble. I used my last bit of duct tape on my headlight.

What they are saying is pick one room and seal it up, one with few windows and outlets so you can get it done quickly. I just don't see what duct tape and 4 mil plastic will do. I've got access to 45 mil air and vapor barrier sheeting with extremely strong pressure sensitive adhesive on one side - should I wrap my whole freaking house in it. They also haven't mentioned how long you have to get this done, 5 minues, 20 minutes, 8 seconds - what?

In reality, this is a ploy to make America feel safer and like the gov't is trying to help. This idea is a bad one and would never work and anyone who thinks is will is being silly.

If it is a ploy to make Americans feel safer, then the media is creating a frenzy, and sending the public into an alarmist frenzied reaction. Every news outlet has been talking about Gaff tape this, plastic sheeting that, there are onsite reports from surplus stores. - uh ,in fact this woman is bying old school European masks. Hate to burst her bubble but, those masks aren't going to help if she needs them.

KJ, LOLOLOL!!! "I wish I had stock in the duct tape company"

My thoughts exactly, only which companies? LOL, Yeah, in plastic sheeting too ... But, wait(!) plastic is made with oil ... Oh whatever are we to do ...

Yes, I believe they are trying to raise the sleepy ass mass, that yes, this too, can happen ... I interpreted it as in go into a designated room, seal off vents, windows, etc, and lay low ... (I guess better than running around like a headless chicken?)

This just does not surprise me, (see archives 2001 "Terrorism" both 1 & 2) I think that the first firecracker to off in a shopping mall, will instantly plunge us into *commerce go boom!* Shiaat. I have some words, but they're not ladylike.

I went out and bought a good supply of Tequila, a case of red wine, and some really good scented candles. (Being the heathen and infidel that I am :-)) Don't get me started on the French ... that's been a stickler with me for years. Haha!

lol.....

Let's see..... DC, NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Seattle, Boston... etc. etc....

Sure, if I lived in a big city, I'd be concerned. Or, a major suburbia in the vicinity of such. But when you start trying to find a smaller out-of-the-way place, and then go smaller, and then head out into the boondocks from there, well, you're still in a bigger area than where I'm at.... so, it's something that I'm not really giving second-thought to, I'm more interested in dinner....

er, um, "(see archives 2001 "Terrorism" both 1 & 2)" My bad ... sorry, I can't quite get a link to that. It is interesting though.

Leslie, I hear ya. I live in an infestation ... Let's just say that, well, that stupid retard that shot up El Al Air (LAX) on July 4th 2002, lived a couple of blocks from me. I can't go any further. i.e. a friend of mind who speaks fluent Spanish, learned from a certain lady that the woman's espouse (illegal immigrant) had helped some Arab guys move *very heavy* boxes move. ... Out to a place not too far from our area. At the end, he got curious, looked inside, and saw a ton of ammo - all types. They saw him peek, started screaming in an Arabic language, and he high tailed it. Gave his wife the license # of their vehicle, then split down south. My friend couldn't get the license plate # from the woman later (she split too). It goes a lot further, but needless to say, the response (AT THAT TIME, it was over a year ago) from the FBI was typically bureaucratic nonchalance.

Ta hell with em.

Oh yeah, Greg, it gets even better ... (yet another close by neighbor) Let me introduce you to my neighborhood:

This next link is really good ... the guy had ties to S. Africa WMD program (and guess what? they can't figure just who all they sold it to, HAHA!)

A quicker easier solution. Wrap your head with plastic and duct tape tightly around your neck. You can now go anywhere without fear of attack. No hiding in one room or taping 30 windows and doors. It sounds like the old duck and cover plan in case of a nuke attack. This is really well executed terrorism. No actual attack, no risk, no expense and they have the country in a panic. When it comes to bang for your buck this has the anthrax beat by a mile.

I decided to just get one of those GIANT condoms. If I hunch my shoulders I can just fit in it. They are sold by the same people who send out the "Increase your penis size in 3 hours!" e-mail spam.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking it is a crock.
Can you say "Duck and Cover"?

I have about the same window/door count as John and I thought what the heck I should probaly be ready. In the end I decided it's no use. My biggest gripe is we sit, worry and wait. WTF we know what the SOB's look like let's round em' up! PROFILE, PROFILE, PROFILE!! I mean if they are rooming around OUR country and are not citizens who gives a shit. I am sick of this pansy ass let's not hurt anyone's feeling BS. If the IRA was doing the same crap I would get pulled in because of the way I look. I would deal with it and move on. I feel better already, thanks.

I just think of all the times I've been yanked out of line at the airports, been detained, searched, had my bags turned inside out, and almost missed my flights, simply because of my cursed birthplace being stamped on my passport. Yeah, career horse trainers must be watched carefully, we've all read "Animal Farm". Jesus, the resources wasted watching ME! Guess they've finally got me off their list because ever since 9/11 my detentions have ceased.

Ya, that whole duct tape plastic thing cracks me up. Like if you made your room air tight enough to keep the germs out you aren't going to be breathing fresh air for very long. I bet the germs are going to be in the air longer then your air supply will last. The news (ch 5) was telling people in DC to stay in their homes if some thing happens. Well if it's a nuke you won't have to worry about it cause them and their house will be gone. If it's a dirty bomb though that would be a good idea cause at least then they won't be bringing the radiation from their door step to mine. Of course if it's a nice sized nuke my house will probably be gone too or I'll be glowing from the fall out. Get some sun glasses, a lawn chair, and your favorite drink. If it happens sit back and enjoy. If you're going to go do you want to go huddled in a room with some water and a gas mask or do you want to go out in style and comfort. I'll take the style and comfort way myself.

Duck and Cover!

So now that I've coverer my double pane windows with plastic and tape I'm all safe. Never mind the HVAC that's sucking/pushing air from the outside just under one of my windows.

Sounds to me like driving up I95 in northern NJ and rolling up the windows to keep the smell out in the middle of August while cranking up the AC with the vent open.

I feel much better that our elected officials have all the facts to make good decisions.

So lets get it over with and invade Iraq because North Korea is no threat to us. Then I can take down the plastic that was made with products we imported from the middle east.

Talk about being yanked out of line at an airport, here's a funny story. I was traveling back to NY from Philly with a friend of mine in the Record Business. He ramdonly got pulled out of line to be throughly checked. When they dumped out his shaving kit out flew the rolling papers! I was thinking, "Dude how stupid, this could last all day!" They searched him up and down and couldn't find anything else, thank God! We had a good laugh about it at the bar while waiting for our plane.

Greg, I know you where being funny but you are half right.
My daughter goes to middle school here and they practice two drill.
1. for school shooters. ie. get under desk and have desegnated person close and lock class door.
2. Terror attacks. They have put out a letter regarding preparedness to parents and it states that in case of a real emergency thet they would not release the children to parents and keep them safe at the school. They practice drills with the alarm and evacuating the building for one instance and the whole school meeting in the gym and lunch areas for another.

When I found this out, I was flabergasted. This pisses me off so much! Let me tell you if they don't release my child the me in a situation like example 2, they will have a shooter like example 1...ME!

This is all getting way to out of hand!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear ya. It is a little bit silly when you are told to have duct tape and plastic handy to fend off airborne biological or chemical attacks. I mean, there are so many openings in the average home, that you would never successfully seal them up, especially by just covering the windows. However, you may save a few gallons of oil over the course of the winter if you cover the windows. Maybe that was the underlying goal behind tellign people that.

My son is 8 and is very worried about the terrorists coming to our house. He checks the doors and windows at night and asks me to do the same. He is generally a very bold, brave kid but the thought of the unknown is bothering him.

Out of curiosity, has anybody else noticied the large number of duct tape auctions that have popped up on eBay?
