Those of who/us that have replaced your oxygen sensors:
Did you replace them because there was a Check Engine Light, or reduced performance?
Did you do any diagnostics, or just replace them?
OEM, or one of the cross referenced parts?
Did you use an end wrench, or one of those nifty sensor wrenches?
Are they accessed most easily from beneath or above? FWIW-they seem to be pretty accessible!

While I'm mainly interested in pre-gems vehicles, all input is much appreciated. My truck (95 Disco, 3.9) has fairly high miles and almost certainly original sensors, and the mileage has declined substantially recently. Being a true CB, I can't see myself spending at the very least $200 for replacement sensors without first doing at least some homework...

Thanx,
Paul

The ones on the passenger side are a BITCH to get out with a regular spanner, but the drivers side only took me about twenty minutes to do the whole thing while I was out of town on vacation, after the check engine light came on and I ordered it ahead to where I was going. I probably had a less than ideal set of spanners though, so you might have an easier time at it. It did bring my mileage back up in conjunction with a cleaned airfilter and a new fuelfilter she drives like new now.

i will be replacing mine soon with 83K on the clock. no way i am spending the $ on sensors from the dealer. screw that shit. you can get generics for less than half. check www.oxygensensors.com and technically they are not generic. only a few manufacturers of these and the markup is obviously quite huge.

Garrett:
You are my new best friend! I don't think even my wife can complain about the cost of those sensors. Well, she can, but after tomorrow, I will be back in her good graces!

Peace,
Paul

well paul if you were a hot 23 year old girl i would be happier, but that will do. haha.
yeah that is the cheapest i have found. just did some more searching and still nothing beats those prices. check with nathan crabtree at www.discountrovers.com as well. his are about $90 i think. still when you have 4 to replace it does take some $$.

When I did mine a couple of weekends ago the front were harder to do then the rear. The clips for the front are right about where the meets the block. You cand do it with a regular end wrench wit no problem. I found it easier to clip them in first then twist the wires then untwist them when your threading them back in. there is not much room to work where you clip them in.

I rode with my check engine light on for like 2500 miles before I finnaly got around to doing it and I didn't notice any performance loss at all.

I had to replace mine at 86k when the driver side one started rattling. Very easy to replace. Oh the check engine light did illumintate.

Has anyone used the Walker sensors from oxygensensors.com? I have 140k on mine 95 so probably should replace them. But since I want to convert it to diesel maybe next year, I hate to spend a ton of money on sensors.

Go with Nathan Crabtree at discountrovers...he sells the same gen-u-wine NTK Technical Ceramics ones that are supplied to Rover (and then you) but at one third the price charged by the dealer.

I bought one of the 17mm, deep well/side cutout sockets from SnapOn. (As Mr. Natural sez, "the right tool for the right job.") Most of the sensors are readily accessible with a "line wrench", but the upstream one on the left side is in a real tight location - I needed all my 1/2" drive extensions to go out the top of the engine. Of course, '96 and later vehicles have four of the bloody things.

The toughest part is the connectors - placed by a designer with a real sadistic streak. You can either see the connector, or get a hand on it, not both. However, separating them is actually easier than re-attaching. (Squeeze the right portion and they pop apart.) I ended up having one guy hold one connector while I pushed the plug from the other side of the vehicle.

Cheers

Fuck it, I don't need to support web sites of assholes.

And Tom , did you buy anything from the site to "Support it" or do you think that just taking up its bandwidth is "Supporting it" ??
