If your fan belts are making a lot of noise there is a way to stop it. Get a spray can of lithium grease. Put the red straw on the spray nozzle and start your engine. Spray the least amount possible of the grease towards each fan belt pully. Spray it only 1/10 of a second. This will turn the noise off like a light switch. The lithium grease is what LR recomends for door hinges as well. Randall |

I found that if you replace the belts they are much quieter. The spray only lasted a couple of days and then the sound bacame unbearable. |

Yeah. If you put new belts on it only lasts 3 months till they start making noise. The lithium grease actually works for me. I'll make a note that I did that today and see how long it lasts. Randall |

I WAS USING THE AFTERMARKET BELTS AND COMPLAINED TO MY RR MECHANIC ABOUT THIS.....HE ALSO SAID, THAT IF I USED "ROVER" BELTS, THE NOISE WOULD STOP....OF COURSE I DIDNT BELIEVE HIM....HE EVEN SAID THAT IF I PUT THE ROVER BELTS ON AND THEY SQUEEKED, HE WOULD PAY FOR THE BELTS. I TOOK HE UP ON THE OFFER.....THEY HAVE NOT SQUEEKED SINCE.....GO FIGURE? |

It's squeeking coz it's slipping. Grease will just mask the fact that the belt is slipping (and make it slip more!). My trick is to smear some mud onto the belt & restart the engine. The clay in the mud absorbs any oil or grease & the grit removes any greasy film from the pulleys, stopping the sqeaking instantly. |

are you all so sure it's the belts?? the pulleys can be rebuilt with "standard" bearings - just pop one off, dissasemble it and go down to a machine shop and they will match it up for you. generally a $5 fix. also, note that the air-conditioning and water-pump pulleys are identical, and can be used one for the other in a pinch. cheers, isaac

Isaac, how do you disassemble the pulley? I've removed mine and wasn't sure if I should try banging the pulley off the support with a hammer...??? TIA |
