Sorry about the subject line...only way to get the attention of some people around here. ;)

Anyway, I am replacing my rotoflex and have to replace the original bearing as well since it's frozen in there but has lost nearly all of its internal rubber (re my other recent rotoflex thread). I'm going to cut the original bearing out with a method similar to what blue posted - cut it from top-to-bottom on the inside w/ a dremel, then put a chisle in there and wack it.

My question now is this: When I go to put the new bearing piece in, what grease do I use on it? I currently only own the lithium grease that I gun into the lube points of the shaft. I doubt this is the same thing. Also, once I know what grease to use, how much do I apply and where? The bearing unit is a metal cylindar with a rubber ring on the inside. Do I lube just the rubber interior, or also put some on the metal exterior of the cylindar before tapping it into the shaft?

Also, is there anything else about this process I should have a heads-up on?

The Disco has been incapacitated since around Thanksgiving due to needing a new caliper and rotor and now the rotoflex. We have our first baby arriving any day now and I'd much rather have the truck as our primary baby-mover than our Saturn this time of year.

As always, advTHANKSance, Discoweb!!!

Use the lithium grease. I use the Wal-Mart brand semi-synthetic marine grease. Seems to work OK so far.

Fill the gap, but not so far that the hydraulic pressure won't allow you to push the shaft onto the centering pin. Remember, there shouldn't be too much movement back there around that bushing.
