I test drove a 1992 RRC today and notice some play in the steering is this normal as I am used to driving such a different vehicle (2001 VW GTI)Its not terrible so maybe its normal. Also what is a good price to pay for this vehicle it is a 1992 RRC with 103k and seems to be in very good condition. The dealer (non LR) is asking 6000. Thanks in advance. BTW with these vehicles I find it very hard to go by the book values. Thanks again |

i dont know what you re feeling, but gennerally there shouldn't be much play in the wheel. is it most eveident while at highway speed, like do you find the truck wandering a bit? or are you saying you turn the steering wheel back and forth and the car continues to track striaght.. give us more info, i am thinking the steering (itself) is normal and the truck needs new bushings. and makes the steering feel different |

Well I didnt get it on the highway but traveling at about 40mph as I turned the wheel back and forth the car continued to track straight. What do you think about the price ? |

hmm, mine does that and i have a freshly remanufactured PS box unit. because of the milage it sounds alittle steep, but then again, if it is cherry shape with good clean upper tailgate, no leaks, headliner in goodshape with nice leather interior and heater fan working on all settings, it can be worth the 6k. you have to look at what you get for 4 grand and then add up what it takes to get to "like new" and sometimes the higher price is obvious. it's probably ready for that bushing change i spoke about which will let it handle better. by chance is it wearing the michelin XPC tires? these are expensive tires usually purchased at the dealer which is an indication that the truck was dealer maintained. thats a good sign. lift the carpet/black rubber under the front passenger foot well, ther airconditioner unit is on that side and there is a usually rust there. also open the rear doors and look at the corner up on the wheel well , check for rust. not really a big deal unless it is out of controll, but a good bargaining chip. if you get serious about the purchase and plan on offroading with the truck , you really should make sure the viscus coupling in the transfer case is still working, this allows the truck to turn from the car like "all wheel drive" into a truck like "4 whl drive" atomatically when it senses slip. surf over too www.rangerovers.net, a ton of information can be found there. rd

Thanks for the info. I have seen so many RR in the 0 - 4000 range and they are always in terrible shape especially cosmetically. It seems really nice ones start at 5000 going up from there. Its a tough buy not easy especially when you have to think about future maintenance issues. Thanks again 1 |

Bob, I bought my 91RRC 1 1\2 ago with 104K and paid $5000 (I'm in NJ). So at least yours is in the ballpark. Everything except the cruise control worked. Good luck. Adrian

Bob, I do all the service myself (with help from JohnC). Though I did have Vinni from "Import Specialist" on rt17 flushout my old brake fluid and install RTE's extended brake lines. Where are you from? I'm in Essex county. Adrian 91RRC |
