It sounds like some sort of metal on metal rubbing sound coming from my right front tire. If gets worse when I turn to the right and dissappears when I turn baxk to the left. It also gets worse when I step lightly on the brakes.
I replaced the brakes a few months ago, so I am ruling out brake pads. I looked all around it last night when I got home and didn't see and stick, rocks, or other foreign objects around it.

Any ideas before I take my tire off for some troubleshooting?

Greg,

I think that is the next step for you. Sounds like cv or bearing.

Sounds to me like it is likely your wheel bearings. Pretty easy to service as long as you have a shop manual and a 2 1/16" hub nut socket.

Just a little tip though: If you have to replace the wheel bearings, don't buy the overpriced LR ones, get the Timken bearings from a bearing shop. The ONLY difference between the two is the fancy green and white LR box, and you'll save some serious bucks.

LOL the ones from Land Rover don't even come in a LR box. The genuine ones come in a timken box!

Would it make the same noise when I step on the brakes?

To see if it's the bearings, jack up the entire front end and put it your disco on jack stands. Also be sure to chock the wheels before hand and put the transfer case in neutral. With the both front wheels in the air, gentrly spin the font wheels (you can leave the wheels on). There should be no play in the wheel and it should turn smoothly with no noise (other than the brake shoes rubbing the discs).

Thanks,
Mike B.

Is that the cdl in neutral or the gear shift. It is a 5 speed.

How hard is it to change if it is the bearings?
Should I change both wheels?

Thanks

If it is the bearings, how long can I drive with them making noise?
