Enough with team "Hummerwimps".I live in the San Diego area and own a 03 H2 bone stock with air suspension. So who wants to go out to the desert and lets just see what it will do?Im sure tons of RR LR guys will jump at the chance.Bring your cameras, tow straps and lets see what happens. I dont want to tear my hummer up but they sold it as an "off road" vehicle so I say off road it.Im going snowboarding next weekend(22nd) But I think the following weekend is open.As far as location goes maybe Borego?Im not looking to start anything but talk is cheep. Please dont take this as a challange think of it more as an experiment. What do ya think?

Damn, I was hoping for a pic of Ho with a yellow one (He has a yellow disco and has said many times that he likes the looks of the H2 -I think he might have changed his mind but he used to be their biggest supporter around here anyway) :-) :-)

On to the winch:
I got my new one from www.clemson4wheel.com, very cheap with free shipping (you have to actually add it to your shopping basket before it will show you the discounted price), Someone on that pansy H2 site posted a link to www.gowarn.com (I believe that was it) they had the same deal with the free shipping, price might have been cheaper as well I never looked.

Keith,

http://www.bb4wa.com/

Bill Burke's going to be in your area giving a 2-day wheeling seminar. I've heard great things about him.
I can't afford it right now, otherwise I'd join him when he comes to Arizona.

it's more ... wide open so you won't potentially damage the H2.

I'd love to come but that's my 4 year wedding anniversary. I already asked my wife yesterday if she'd be up to going to Death Valley for some off-roading for our anniversary, but she nixed it. Can you believe that? haha

Maybe the following weekend? Heck you can always go both weekends :-)

I'm with Ho, Truckhaven, March 1st. Let's call it the 'Truckhaven Experiment'

Andrew, I think Topaz is the 4th anniversary stone, tell her you're going to look for some in the desert!

FWIW I wasn't suggesting we go to Death Valley. I was just using in reference to the fact that taking my wife off-roading for our anniversary is definitely out!!

BTW Brian according to Mapquest it's 1030.09 miles, or 18:13, from Colorado Springs to Furnace Creek in Death Valley.

Talking about H2's, there are so many running around town here, mainly rich soccer moms and baby boomers, there are usually totally chromed out and black plus the running boards and brushguard, I have even seen one with bling bling 24+" wheels. Its just sickening, there vehicles are made to go off-road but none of these ever will, who would want to scratch that shinny black paint or chrome, I guess you could say the same for most of the Land Rovers around here too. I would personally love to take a H2 off-road.

Damn! I would love to go, but I'm planning on installing the Roverdrive in Puddles on the 1st/2nd. I want to put in a few days around town/etc., to make sure it's good to go before I take her out for a long road trip. I don't need that to go bad a few hours from nowhere.

Truckhaven is a great spot. Lots of different ways to do different things.

I wonder how much of the recent rain made it out there.

Carter, you get the sticker there and I'll pimp it for some pictures.I entered the Lat Lng into my GPS and its only 65.1 miles away!So is anyone in?Remember its for bragging rights.BTY I went by the local Land Rover dealer today and checked out the discovery up close(actually I laid under it) and boy do I have some thoughts. What year are you guys LR'S anyway? Have you done anything with the exaust or is that an issue?

Hey I thought you meant the 8th & 9th of March. If it's the 1st-2nd I MIGHT be able to go. I REALLY REALLY want to but my life is extremely crazy right now unfortunately.

Brian, I hope to go to Death Valley some time this summer. If you're up to it at some point and want to make the drive, I'd love to meet up with you!

BTW Kevin if I can show up, I have some extra Discoweb stickers I'd be happy to slather onto your H2 :-)

Well I haven't ever taken an official survey or anything but it SEEMS like the majority of the discos around here are DIs (first half of 99 and older) so most of ours are a tad different than the ones you looked at the other day, but that isn't to say that there aren't a good number of DIIs around here as well which are also very capable machines (look at Greg Davis' for one).

The only think I do to my exhaust is put JB weld on the manifold crack every few months :-) :-)

Kevin, The exhaust in a D2 isn't much of an issue. The tip gets smashed a little but it's not much of a problem. My CATS have taken a few hits too but so far so good. Once people start to modify the rear bumper the resonator is sometimes taken off.

I wish I could go with eveyone but the drive from VA is not an option. :-)

OK is it just Kevin & I? Nobody else? Ho? We should put this in the "Event Schedule" area if you're serious Kevin. Maybe on www.sclr.org and lrcsd.com too. My back has me pretty much incapacitated right now but I'm really hoping it will be better in 2 weeks!!!! I just talked to my wife about it and it's OK with her. Actually she might even come (wonders never cease). :-)

I've only been to Truckhaven once for this year's CORVA and as some of you know I didn't make it very far before *BREAKING DOWN* so it would be cool if somebody who knew the area was coming. Otherwise maybe south/west into Borrego is a better option as I'm more familiar with that area. Truckhaven would be cool though if we can get some other people to go.

BTW I wouldn't classify myself as an expert off-roader or anything. I've been doing it my whole life but have been pretty casual about it until the last couple years. I have a mostly stock D1 with a 2" lift & off-road tires.

And yes I'll bring my digital camera and taking plenty of photos. I'm just up for wheeling, no big ego here.

eh guys - the weekend of 1 march is a massive off road event out at t/haven hills - tierra del sol?
i'll be out there with my disco - but most likey riding shotgun in a certain ARB isuzu trooper with a good friend of mine - egging him on to get it stuck..... i think there will be a 1000+ vehicles so i don't know how it compares to the CORVA runs.

And yes Carter if there are any shots of people getting towed out of Truckhaven it will probably be me...

The thing to do with the resonator is get a sazall and just hack it off, other than that the exahst is good to go. The real weakness it the track rod in the d1. It always catches on rocks especially if you still have the steering dampner in the rear. I finally took mine off completely. much better.

I don't want to pay $65 either. And I guess it would be too crowded to just go anyways. The desert is big though and there are plenty of other places to go. There's that great trail that goes from Julian down to the valley in Borrego...

You guys are welcome to go the 2nd weekend of March obviously, but I'll have pass on that weekend myself (anniversary).

Count me in for March 8th. I'll represent an open diff disco to compete with the H2 and I'll try to recruit a few other local rovers. Truckhaven doesn't seem that varied to me. I think we should take the H2 to the pinyon mountain trail and see how far it makes it...

Been there, done that....

This fall an H2 joined the CLRC at the Pipeline. Hummer was pulled out of mud holes twice by a Freelander. I don't have pictures, but I am certain someone from the CLRC can get them.

Now, I like the new H2 'Suburban', even added one to the team. They can be used off road, but you will need to carefully pick your path.

Yes, it's not a competition or a shootout, more of an 'experiment' as Kevin put it :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing what that minivan can do :-)

only jokin' with the minivan! and yeah, as far as groceries go it's pretty much raw meat and tequilla all round (i prefer a less aggressive diet - i bring my own veggie burgers and boddingtons!) It's all good.

Kevin, Andrew, Ho - have you guys already settled with the place?

I can sneak in and stab Kevin in the back suggesting taking the Pinyon Mtn trail in Anza-Borrego. Or going to Coyote Canyon. Or taking the 2N89Y near Big Bear. Even John Bull would do - I'd love to see an H2 here

Thanks peter,
you had to go and post a pic of the very tree that crunched my mirror taking that obstacle the other direction in the mud this past weekend.

It's not a mini-van, it's a school bus - just look at a yellow one some time - it's a short school bus at that..........:-)

But I guess I shouldn't say too much, I can't go to the experiment. There had better be some people with cameras there.
