Just noticed that I am unable to adjust the air temperature on the driver's side. The knob turns but the air stays hot. Passenger side is working just fine and I can hear the adjustement in air behind the panel, but, again, not on the driver's side. I tried to get in there, but stopped after taking the initial panel off. Will this be a huge mess to access behind and try to fix? |

1. pull the knobs off 2.remove the 2 screws that are behind the knobs 3. then remove the face plate then you see what the hell is going on and compare the side that works to the side that doesn't

I went as far as you described, but then there is a plastic case (that all the knobs are attached to) that is attached by four screws. After I took those screws out I still could not get the case out without taking off the whole face plate for all the front instruments. I'm wondering if taking this off is going to be a big mistake. I feel ok under the hood, but I don't want to get into a nightmare of wires and plastic crap. Maybe it is more straight forward then I think. Ever been back in there? |

Geoff: You will need to remove the entire fascia panel to get to the controls. It isn't that bad, last weekend, I tore the dash out of a '96 and had it back together in less than an hour. Remove the cup holder, coin tray, hazard light assembly, cruise control switch assembly and the radio. Remvoe the six screws holding the fascia on (two are vertical directly above the radio, you'll need an off-set screwdriver unless the piece has broken off!). Now you can gently pull the heater control assembly toward you and see that the cable has either broken or come off of the pin. When you get this far, e-mail me at BTLRovers(at) hotmail.com and I can possibly supply you with repair parts as I have a few of the panels with various parts missing. Now, for my obligatory "While you're in there" lecture. What shape is your heater blower motor switch in? If your switch is in rough shape, you will need to spend the horrendous price for a complete assembly as the switchis not available separately. I am more than a little embarrassed to say that I have a toggle switch hanging from my dashboard controlling the fan between low and high, with no off position!:-) Peace, Paul |

Thanks Paul, Great information. I will get to it this weekend. Can you tell how the radio comes out? Thanks again and I'll let you know what I find! Geoff |

Geoff: Supposedly, the radio requires a nifty three-sided tool. I use a 2 m/m allen wrench (might have been a 2.5, but it doesn't really matter as they don't fit just right, but it does work). Insert it through the holes on each side of the radio, turn until bottomed, stick your fingers into the hole where the cassette goes and gently tug. |
