Well folks, here's a picture of my Jinxed rover engine. So far the damage is 1 short block, camshaft, lifters, rockers and valve job w/3 bent valves. Total parts and machine work cost, about 2000 bucks. Yes that stubby thing is the camshaft.

You can get a new shortblock for around $1200 and some new heads on E-Bay for less than $800. Keep your eyes open...new is usually better than used and machined (well, unless you had some $$$ headwork on your current heads)! |

Damn, that looks bad. However, the absolute worst I ever saw was a 4.0 at a LR dealership taken out of a '97 D1. It had been driven by a soccer mom who NEVER changed the oil or filter, until it literally exploded -- it had 3 or 4 piston rods driven out of the sides of the block and the "oil" had been reduced to a more or less solid brick in the sump. I was in there trying to trace a tapping sound that came about after the "little woman" ran my old 3.9 out of oil. Seeing that demolished 4.0 made me feel just a little bit better. ---Norm |
