Hi Everyone, It is snowing hard here in PA as I write and I am glad I have a LR. I just ordered Silblades to replace the crap stock blades on my D2. Although the blades have not arrived yet I saw a few archive postings that make me think they will not fit on the standard wiper. The manufacturer states they are for a D2 but several postings say they won't fit. Any thoughts? Jeff |

I actually emailed the guys at Expedition Exchange and they told me that the Silblades will not fit a DII - they have the right length blades, just not the correct mount for the DII wiper arm. If you can get them to fit on, write us back so we can all get them!!! Thanks, Will |

Order D1 blade kit. They fit right on the DII, come with a decent winter blade and you can use Silblades or any blade and refill. Well worth the money, and they work better than the piece of crap stock DII arms and blades. I ordered mine from Rover Connection at http://www.roverconnection.com/ The Part#/Desc. is LRN50410, Discovery Series II Winter Wiper Blade Kit-wiper arms, caps and blades (front pair) HD blades $40 My stock blades broke during a heavy snow storm - the driver's side blade flew off of the car, never to be seen again. Check the archives, that's where I found the solution Jack

Jack, So, if I order the following from Rover Connection: LRN50410, Discovery Series II, Winter Wiper Blade Kit-wiper arms, caps and blades (front pair) HD blades $40 This will allow me to use the Silblades???? Question: This part nrumber is for a D2 on Rover Connection-you initially mentioned the part for the D1. Please let me know. Thanks for your help. Jeff |

Jeff, Yes, since this kit comes with a D1 arm, you can use the Silblade spec'd to fit the D1. The part number is for the D2, but they send you two D1 arms, along with two front winter blades, and a rear winter blade, which will not fit on the rear of the D2, so you can trash it, or in my case, it fit the rear of my Explorer. FWIW - D1 and D2 use a different arm, my dealer recommended replacing the D2 arm with a D1 arm, since there is no winter blade available for the D2. Also the stock D2 arm/blade does a very poor job, doesn't last long, and has very little pressure against the glass. The D1 arm is much better. You may notice a very slight decrease in the area cleaned by the blades, since I believe the D1 blades are a little shorter - but the trade-off is they work well, and you can use any blade designed for the D1, which is a very common arm to blade attachment, and blade size. When you remove your D2 blades you'll notice they are made in France, which, as I read in the archives, is probably why they suck. Good Luck! Jack PS - I used a little double-sided tape to hold the new caps on the securing nuts. |

Also, if you don't need the winter blade kit, just order a pair of D1 arms and caps and use the Silblades from EE. Check under resources, follow link to vendors at the top of the D-web page. Jack |

We just installed a set on our D90 right before we took off to Wv on Thursday. We had a bit of icing on the blade going down but where the Silblades touched the windsheild, it was all good. However, the return trip was a bit differant. After driving 12 hours through the heart of the storm the from Wv to Philly, in that kind of cold, be sure you use a good DeIcing washer fluid. If you have the typical washer fluid in your bottle, empty it before putting the deicer fluid in. We found out for those 12 hours that they dont mix and the Silblades wont stop the freezing of the normal washer fluid and it will build up around the blade. We finally stopped and emptied what was left in the bottle and filled it with just the deicing fliud and the blades worked much better. By night fall when the temps really dropped, we still had a bit of ice build up but not on the blades. Chris von C. |
