I already searched the archives and pulled the console to get a look at things. The linkage seems fine, (not siezed), but I only get limited movement at the transfer case. I've reached down there and I can feel it move a few mm's against a definite resistance and then a slight click when it stops. The rig drives fine in 4 hi and the transfer lever sits about straight up. Any further diagnostics? I read in some threads about a shift interlock, is this easy to take out of the equation? Lookin for help... thanks |

I've tried it at different speeds and it just won't move. I'd like to try everything I can before taking it anywhere ($$). |

Two suggestions that may or may not help. 1) Not only try while rolling but if you haven't already try while in gear rolling slowly. 2) At MAR this year I could not get the truck into 4 low- it had so much wind up it stayed in 4 hi for hours. Finally I tried something that worked instantly. I pulled the ebrake then put the vehicle in gear and moved to 4lo with no problem. I guess there was a slight alignment issue that was corrected when the front shaft shunted and the rear was restricted by the ebrake. If it works let me know. |

I'm having the same problem (posted as "D1 Transfer case stuck in high)and am surprised at the lack of response. Seems like some of the old timers have split. I did receive a response from Scott that told me to check out a 12-pin connector behind the glovebox (he said that was his problem). I'll dig out the interlock and examine that connector this weekend and let you know what I find. You in AZ too? Must be a weather thing . . . |

Blake, I have found that a quick, firm kick to the lever will often do the trick. |

Has anybody pulled/disabled the interlock? If so, any input? Can you run without it or fake it out? I did try hands, feet, big 1 1/2" wrench for a cheater, only ended up bending the lever. Also, can somebody explain wind up mechanically?

Dumb question guys, but assuming you have an auto you are placing it in neutral before trying to shift from hi to lo? Also, hows the diff lock? |

It sounds like Blake and I are having the same problem, the diff lock on my 94 moves easily, in and out but transfer shift lever only moves a fraction of an inch before meeting serious, mechanical resistence. It seems to me that the resistence is at the lever, rather than down in the gearbox -hope I'm not wrong. And yes, mine's an auto and I'm in neutral, putting it in to drive to "bump" the drive train doesn't work, I've also played with rolling (in neutral) 3-5mph, nada. Is this the same problem as you Blake? |

Same problem. Diff lock engaging, low range blocked. I've tried it in N stopped and rolling, D&R with the E-brake, and pulled the center console to see if the linkage was sticking. It's not. I'd like to take the solenoid out of the loop because I'm not sure I have the ability to diagnose/repair anything in the T-case. Any experience out there? |
