I am considering fitting the mechanical linkage arrangement to my DII to allow CDL engagement. Does the activation of the selector in the T-case activate the dash light showing CDL engaged and can you turn car off and then engage and thereby turn off the ETC. Cheers Scott-OZ |

While Ignition On: Engage CDL stud and CDL light will come on. Your ABS / TC is still operable. While Ignition Off: Engage CDL stud, then when ignition is turned back on: the CDL, ABS, and TC lights will be illuminated meaning CDL is engaged, ABS / TC is inoperable.

Scott, some DII's had the wiring connector taped out of the way above the t-case and not connected. Therefore, you won't get any dash lights. Crawl underneath and look to the P/S of the T-case just behind the CDL stub. You'll see 2 wiring connectors. Both should be connected. If one is bent back and taped, undo it and connect it to the spade on top of the t-case next to the other connector. |

I ran a switch to cut out the CDL-engaged sensor momentarily, so that when I start the engine I don't cut out the ETC/ABS. After the engine is started, then I switch it back, so the light comes on (and reminds me about it being locked). Dean |

Thanks all that is very helpful. Can I ask whether you have done the conversion and found it better than without CDL and if so in what situations. |

Scott, Basically I was asking the same questions a year ago. After the CDL is engaged, the ETC will not come on as much (maybe half as much, that kind of reduction) in slippery conditions. There's one good reason, for a start. But the main reason is when you're backing down a failed hill climb: You're back wheels will almost never slip, but without the CDL engaged the fronts can slip all over the place and you'll start swinging the front round into very dangerous positions. This is of course the worst situation to be in, as you can turn over sideways and roll down the hill. So it depends if you ever do hill climbing on slippery slopes. If not, there's little reason to do it - cross axled you won't have a problem since the ETC will get you going. Dean |

Dean - I have backed down a very steep hill and slippery. What helped a lot was a Manual box - the hill decent only went on once briefely. Was fine |

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Does the CD lock when I put it in low? |

If it is a D1 then push the T-Case selector over to the diff lock side and it will lock. Of course the big advantage of Diff lock is using it in high range on dirt roads at speed - fantastic grip and feel. (If DII - NO CDL therefore no lock) |

That's what I though. It's misleading, on the dash the 4wd shift sticker implies that if you are in "low" the CD has been locked. |
