I am starting the research for a Warn winch to install on the Pig. http://www.discoweb.org/pauldmorgan/Head%20On.jpg For those of you who own D2's outfitted with the ARB winch bumper; what Warn model did you choose? And: Do use it? Do you have any problems? What would you do differently? The goal is to order and install a Warn without alteration to the ARB. In other words, how big can I go? Thanks in advance, Paul '00 Pig |

George S. has an M15000 if I'm not mistaken. Several people out there have the 12K winch in the D2 ARB. |

I'd make another recommendation too Paul, if you do go that route, beef the ARB crush cans, and cut away that lower valence. Make a direct, upright mount in the bar itself. That's if your inclined to make some changes. Cutting that valence would be first on my list. I use to drag that thing all over the place. It's a weak point and too low for using the winch/fairlead. |

Hmmm I was looking at the Warn 12K as well. I will look at your suggested items. Any one out there with pics or other info? |

Thanks for starting this thread, Paul. I don't have the $$$ yet for a winch, but to be sure I'll be watching this thread. Thanks all, for the info. Kim (of course, if Greg ever gets another truck, the winch will probably go there first - don't want any marital disputes over the winch ) |

Sorry for killing your thread, Paul I have the ARB winch bumper as well (airbag compatable). I knew the pros & cons when I bought it; - Considering where I live (read state of litigation) and the majority of my driving uses, it seemed the prudent way to go. I know we're limited as to what type of winch can be fitted and used. I know there is a plethora of winch info in the archives, for me it's like trying to take a drink from a fire hose. (yes, Kyle, the gum is out ) Thanks again |

That's all right Kim.... I am starting to drift towards the Rovertym bumper / Warn 12K set up now. I haven't made up my mind yet because I have been told a 12K will fit into the ARB. I am surprised that there hasn't been more responses. |

Paul, David is correct. George S. does have a 15K warn on the ARB. I don't think he had to do any special mods or anything, except of course for making it play music and flash LED lights while its winding Dean |

If you are going to go with the Rovertym you might as well go with the Warn 15K.. It's only $125 difference between the two winches and you never know when the extra 3K might come in handy. Or if the 15K does fit in the ARB then go with that. |

FWIW, I'm doing the RTE slimline w/Warn M15000. John says the 12K and 15K use the same mounting setup (winch schematics prove that out, they weigh the same too) but there's definitely some grill trimming to do. Cool thing is the approach angle is awesome and IMO, a little more stealth than the ARB. |

It's alot more stealth than the ARB. I have the RTE with the new Warn 9.5ti. Its the one witht that thermo-nuclear or whateverthehelltheycallit devise to prevent it from becoming a "little smokie" . I just got way too sweet a deal on it to pass it by, and it is really sharp looking too! |

Well, there is no question regarding approach angle and the ARB I knew that when I bought it. (To top it off I'm still running 255/70/16!) LOL, I guess this is where my driving skills (and defiencies) will be exposed |

Thanks for the input Eric, Mike, and Dean. Eric, Originally I was looking for the Warn 10K but had a hard time finding it. Clemson 4 wheel has the 12K for a decent price. But Damn Man, A Warn 15K just seems like an ass load of power for the pig that weighs around 5K. ARB not stealth Mike? LOL! IMHO, The ARB is a good bar / bumper product. But if I am ever to step out with the big dogs, I am going to need a lot better approach angle. Dean, I saw George S's D2 up at Killington and that thing was like the BattleStar Gallatica. (Remember that show?), anyway his truck is very very nice. Well, I guess it's time to re-prioritize my allocated my beverage fund towards this project. I'll post something when I take action. Okay Folks, Here's the latest. Brown dropped off the Warn 12K today at work. For those of you in the Southeast, I highly recommend http://www.clemson4wheel.com/ I ordered the winch from them on the 25th and it arrived here in NC this afternoon. Interesting bit of info from WARN regarding power requirements. Their tech data states that a battery with 650 CCA is required to power the 12K adequately. Since I am running a 950 CCA Energizer, I might hold off on the dual battery thing. The part that sucks about all of this is the water bottle relocation. I have some type of LEV pump (Whatever that is) attached to the Aft RH firewall. This item is going to hamper placing the water bottle there. Anybody have an alternative idea? As soon as JBS calls, I'll be heading to Richmond to pick up the new RTE. Once mission complete, I'll post a pic. Paul '00 Pig |
