I know that there are a ton of questions similar to these on this forum, and I hate to make you guys repeat your self, but....

I am looking at getting a 2000 Disco 2. My question first is this year reliable or needs alot of work to keep running. What about the ACE (Active cornering enhancement) HDC and other extras that these come with. Are they just things will break or worth it I like to get in my vehicle and go, commute 1hr a day total, mostly on highway. Go camping ALOT which also includes moderate off roading. Dont care about gas milage. All the posts that I have read seemed to be about the older pre 99 models which I have learned is different in terms of reliability. I would apreciate ANY input at all. It scares me to spend 23k-25k and not know what Im getting into. Please HELP!!

I have a '00 DII and I have had only a few minor problems with mine. If you are to get a DII, the '00 is probably the better one as it has the CDL and is not to old.

First thing to consider, how many miles, does it still have a warranty left?
Regarding ACE. It does make the truck feel better around corners but you get the larger rims and thinner tires that, in my opinion, is not condusive to off roading but alot of people do it. The DII is more comfortable to drive on road.
It's up to you as you would be doing alot of road driving. If you are interested in getting into more off road, the '00 is a good one for you.

Get the service records to make sure it has been taken good care of.

Well, if you are new to Rovers you need to know that Rovers require maintaining through out the life of the vehicle. They can be trying sometimes but for the enthusiast, it is all exciting.

To not be so long winded, That truck might require ongoing work so I feel obligated to not misslead you and tell you that they should be worked out.

As for the price, I don't know that going price for '00 DII now a days so I can't give you any advice on that...maybe someone else will chime in. 33,000 miles is not bad for that year so that is a plus. ACE etc... as far as I am concerned, is just more to break and fix.

If you are not interested in repairing the vehicle yourself after the warranty expires, you might think about the extended warranty. They, in most cases, pay for themselves and is a good investment.

If you go for it, remember that owning a Land Rover is more than just owning another vehicle. It is exciting and trying but is an experience I would not trade for any other.

OK I'm done!

Christopher Hichew,

"My question first is this year reliable or needs alot of work to keep running. What about the ACE (Active cornering enhancement) HDC and other extras that these come with."

I would look for a 2000 D2 without ACE / SLS, LR brush guard and the 18" wheels. These items are great for a city driver, but if you venture off the pavement, they can bite you in the ass. HDC is a standard item and can be helpful.

As far as reliability, every disco is different. Some are perfect, some are lemons, and some are average. You just have to wait and see. I have a 2000 with exactly 37000 on the clock and have not had any major problems. But 37000 is low miles for these vehicles. In fact, this weekend I put a total of 971 miles on the clock. I drove to WV, wheeled for 2 days and drove back in the blizzard. No problems whatsoever.

I would only buy a CPO from a dealer with an existing warranty.

Hope that helps,

Paul
