Where would I look in the Yellow pages for a power coater? I have a brushguard and a bumper that need to be re-coated. Where should I look?

Try a metal fab shop or a welding shop. Even if they dont do it, they can point you in the direction of someone who does.

Michael, there are a couple of 'off road' shops up in B'ham you may want to contact. I don't know if they do it themselves, but I'm sure they would know someone locally who does. The first is Off Road Connection. Their number is 841-2493. The other is Southern Offroad. I don't have their number written down but their website is www.southernoffroad.com

what do you guys think of Galvanizing over powder ?
My(our) thoughts that Galvanized then painted will look better once the dings start showing up.
powder coat scratches, and that is the beginning of the end. Galvanized is tufff!
paint over your scratches, and don't worry about rust.
Any thoughts?

Grant,

why paint the galvanized items?? personally like the look of it such as the trim on Series vehicles. my rack on the 109 is hot dipped galvanized and I like it better than the powder coated rack on my RR.

pretty sure you also have to etch the coating which then reduces its effectiveness against corrosion. not totally sure though.

Have any of you thought about Plasticoating? It is basically a rubberized coating that is applied by dipping your part into a heated bath. It looks a lot like the coating that comes on LR rear lamps guards. The coating thickness is controlled by the dipping time. I had both my rear lamp guards dipped for $50.00 bucks by a company in Michigan. Think about it.

Chris, you mean like the rear lamp guards that start to peel just like the brush bars???

I hear the area has to be super clean so that it doesn't peel, am I right? :-)

Since we are talking about painting, has anyone tried painting their bumper?

Many of the Disco I front brush guards peel...are they just painted? How about original LR Adventure roof rack? The finish seems to be different when these items are compared.

A company here in Utah said they will sandblast and powder coat my adventure rack for $130.00, it sounds reasonable, is it?
