I'm going to take the plunge and order up the OBDII cable and software so I can get the goods myself, but I'd like to go to Borrego this weekend but I want to decipher my current "check engine" before I go just so I can rest easy. Everything seems ok, but you never know...
So, anybody in the San Diego are care to help me out just this once? And yes, I know, I can go to pioneer centres or any other mechanic, but I don't really want to pay for it and then buy the tool. AND i live in CA and autozone will NOT do it for free.

i'd really appreciate the help.

happy trails.

The Kragen's here in Los Angeles have Equus OBDII hand held scanners on sale for $129. I'm pretty sure the Kragen's in San Diego have similar deals.

I have one. Very easy to use.

I'd like to buy the cable and laptop/palm combination, but I have to order it from OBD2.com so it won't be here by this weekend. From what i've read on this site and other places people seem to prefer those over the hand helds, otherwise i'd just go to kragen and be done with it.

Shoot me an email if you can bring it by the I15/I8 juncture area around lunch time (thats where I work). I have a OBDII reader.

Jim Newmann at The Rover Group (new shop) in San Diego has a reader and I think it's called "Rovacom".
He's cool and he's in the San Diego Land Rover Club.
You can reach him at 858 689 8900 or info@therovergroup.com

Yes, Autozone will do it for free. The problem is that their software must not be compatible with the Land Rovers. I tried to get mine ('99 D2) scanned but was unsuccessful. Two different Autozones were unable to retreive the codes, but were able to clear the codes.
