HAHAHAHAHA....That's the hardest I have laughed in a while. Sorry, you guys from Canada! I hadn't heard about Canada commiting yet...but they really don't have much of a military. I guess if anyone ever attacks their hoping the US and the UK will take care of them.

Yeah yeah, laugh it up, you Americans.

Funny thing is, Americans spend trillions of dollars on their military yet Canadian taxes are still higher ... hmmm....

Yes I know there's more to the equation.

BTW I think Canada is trying to ramp up parts of its military at least. Over the summer they were offering something like a C$40,000 signing bonus for joining officer training. Maybe it was only for engineers, I'm not sure. Anyways, one of my nephews took them up on their offer.

Hey Mike,

Have you seen what the Canaaaadiaaans do to the F-18's we sell them? They paint a replica of the cockpit over the top of the nose landing gear doors. This is to fool the enemy in a dog fight. Last time I checked, heat seeking and radar guided missles could give a shit less if the plane is right side up or upside down. Hey Canada, "Top Gun" is a movie. Let it go, let it go....

Now where did I put that tape of 'slapshot'......

Grant, I'm not sure who you were talking to, but in case it was me ...

I DID go down to the recruiting office to sign up when I was in university. I even went and interviewed at RMC, considering transferring from Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo. As it turned out, they didn't want me. I didn't do enough team sports in high school which would have proved to them that I was a "team player". I guess the Canadian military didn't want hikers/mountain bikiers/individualists...

So were/are YOU in the military?

i guess they havn't figured out that heat seekers are looking for the ass and not the nose.....no disrespect intended for those northern brothers and sisters but to say that anybody has a better army man for man or even woman for woman is a bit.....hell i can't even think of a word to describe that thought.
and for the sake of arguement i will take judical notice that the kanucks (sp) have contributed immensely in prior miltary engagements. they are for their size a formidable adversary, but....well its like baseball, you have the minors and the big league.

LOL Mike,

You are thinking about the Hanson Brothers! You know, Iron League, Old Time Hockey.

You are right about the Caaaaaanadiaaaans. They will pick up and fight and fight hard. What I am curious about is Quebec......Are those Wine sipping pea soup eaters getting on board for the big win; or are they all booking flights to France?

lol....naw i believe the french speaking cousins of ours are asking themselves what jock iraq is thinking. on an even funnier note, it seems that a french newspaper drew a cartoon deplicting him as a worm. the guy is totally unbelieveable, all his backdoor dealings with saddam has put him in a bind. what a dumbass, "like uh the world will never find out saddam here have a few more bonbons while i show you how to make a nuke."
i love hockey, having grown up in the deep south and the only ice i ever saw was in my tea i never got the chance to learn the fine art of ice skating, but i would give my seat in hell to sit on the sidewalk to be a goalie for the Columbus Blue Jackets!

In recent war games with Canada, the Canadian troops got all upset when American M-1 Abrams tanks came up on them and they weren't ready. They said that they couldn't hear the American tank column comming so they couldn't prepare.

I think the M-1 is a great thing to have.

Hope that's a joke Mike. I don't think our troops have a "self-esteem" problem. Just a lack of funds to provide proper equipment for them to do their job but considering the equipment they do have, they seem to hold their own quite nicely. I have the utmost respect for our soldiers...just not so fond of the stupid decisions our politicians are making for them.

Like Dave Foley said on Kids in the Hall when he was describing Canada to a Philipino kid, "Canada...It's like America...but without the guns"

Seriously, though..Canada is great. I love Bob and Doug McKenzie. Good beer, too. And I like that the drinking age is (was) lower when I was growing up in Northern New York.

Some of you might get some wood out of this:

http://www.vampirebat.com/obeythefist/index.html

I for one am going to stay out of the "who's military is better" debate. I believe the "Army of one" commercial says it all - j/k.

As a vet of the last desert holiday, I really hate to see others have to follow in our footsteps. It seems like the job was left unfinished and that saddens me.

Now as for this "payment" to Turkey, I've really got some nasty things to say about all that. We Americans fight the fight that nobody else wants to, we pay the costs, we (and I really don't get this) pay to rebuild what we blow up, and they want us to pay operational fees for using their country?

I started a reply and lost it....' so here goes...
Nobody should be slamming anyone in the service This is a fact, and I apologize. The Canadian military and the Army in particular is proud and capabable. The boys in uniform are just as frustrated as our allies when it come to the state of our military. Some of the "facts" in the responses are suspect, as are the historical refs. This adds to my frustration.
I am an active Reserve member, ex full timer. I have trained in Drum and Knox( about 5 weeks worth). I have been on NATO ex in and around Hoenfells Germany during "the cold war adventure". And was deployed in Yugo when we were shooting them and not feeding them. During this tour, thankfully, we were not enagaged by American aircraft, but the FRENCH missed our "gas station" by about 75m with a air to ground rocket "by accident". The longest recently recorded sniper shot, was made by a Canadian, supporting our US Brothers in Afghanistan. The US Army wants to give them medals they can't and won't accept.
I think I am qualified to make an opinion, as is anyone else who is wearing, or has worn a military uniform, with full fighting order.
Lets soldier on and leave the chest thumping for the Mess (club). The rest of you can go down to the recruiter.HAHAHA.
Maybe Y'all should check out Hackworths website.

SEC.STATE Colin Powell was recently approached by an Iraqi newspaper reporter and accusingly asked, "Isn't it true that only 13 percent of young Americans can locate Iraq on a map?"

Secretary Powell stopped, turned, and stated "Yes, it's true. But, unfortunately for you, all 13 percent are United States Marines

Have a nice day......

C'mon Paul, you know Marines couldn't find their way without a map and the U.S. Navy - j/k.

In all fairness, sometimes the "ground-pounders" both Marines and Army get bad raps. I've trained with both and I've met some real idiots in all ranks, in all services, from many countries.

I've also met some people that I'd trust my life with, without question.

What is the feeling on the ARMY of ONE pitch.
I am not sure what they are after, other than the palefaced video game kids that can fight on the computer but can't walk up the stairs without losing their breath. I have a theory about the military makeup. It seems to me that the Officers are the loners and troubled kids from school, who were given a chance to be good at something, and the NCO's, are the delinquints, who are generally good at anything they do and know how to have fun while doing it, and are just happy to havve a job. This theory applies to Combat trades, and not the technical ones. Comments....

I would not know if that is true now? I know that when I was in the Army. 11b 10th Mtn 2-22 ('88-'92) We had various misfits. But in my view and apparently the Army's. They never got really far in the ranks. Eventually they would run over their Dicks with a "Duece".(half-ton)

I knew and associated with many fine Officers and NCO's. A lot of them from families with a history of service. Yeah- you have your select officers who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. But the same can be said for NCO's. The military has, and I assume, will always have a diverse class of men and women in it.

With the "Army of One" ads. I think they are trying to portray the challenge of self. While still being part of the Greatest Military on earth. Who knows? Ads like that are prone to be interpreted differently.

Paul- they did not have any of the "cool" toys when I was in. DAMN!

Joe

Actually I believe Canadas have fought in pretty much everytime us Americans have. Afganistan, Gulf War, Cold War, Vietman, Korea, WW2, WW1. Ture their military isn't as large as ours, but look at the population size verses the US. Tax money has to come from somewhere, that money pays for those hi tech weapons. If you really want to get picky, the brits and canadas did give us an ass kicking for a while during the war of 1812. That war was fought to liberate the canadans from the rule of the UK. They didn't like our idea and burned down the whitehouse after they invaded washington. But the orginial joke was funny as shit...

"David Rudd, with the Canadian Institute of Strategic Studies, told CBC News the soldiers of JTF2 are not trained to take and hold ground. "What they do is infiltrate into dangerous areas behind enemy lines, look for key targets and take them out. They don't go out to arrest people. They don't go out there to hand out food parcels. They go out to kill targets.""

Excert from www.cbc.ca/news/indepth/background/wtc_jtf2.html

There is a JTF@ recruiting site but I can't find it again.

Ross, I heard that about JTF2. They basically do special ops stuff and I think were used in that fashion in Afghanistan.

I think it was last year, there were some US soldiers at Cold Lake (about an hour or so north of where I live) doing some cold-weather training there...I think. We have an air force base there so had facilities for training. And I think NASA has been there too. Thought it was pretty cool.

yes the self esteem comment was a joke, and for the record i have the utmost respect for the boyz from the north. in my time i have seen them do alot with a little and they had co-ed war ships long before the idea took heat here in the lower 47 (i refuse to count fla. as a state). the strength of a soldier does come from his weapon, nor his body, not even his brillances only the power of his heart will carry him to victory!

I was at Drum for a over a year and a half. Watertown was the armpit of NY as far as I can remember.
Of course six months of that was in Sinai. Every weekend available was spent in VT. or Lake Placid. I was from SC. So I moved back after my enlistment.
