While I've never driven anything as large as my new 2003 Discovery, and generally I love it, I have a problem with the spacing of the brake and gas pedals. A couple of times I've managed to catch the gas pedal when hitting the brakes resulting in a barely controlled slide. My feet are a little on the large side, but I've never had this problem with any other vehicle. Has anybody else experienced anything like this?

Paul,

I concur with your thoughts on this. I have a '00 D2 and I am over 6' tall with a size 13 shoe. I always have to be aware of my foot position for fear of riding the brake and hitting the gas at the same time. I would like to see a bit more spacing between the two. I guess the Brits have small feet so to them its not a problem.

Jeff.

Thanks for the reply. This feature really concerns me. I already almost hit a car in a parking lot. I'm having nightmares about it happening at a crosswalk. I was hoping someone would say the pedals have some adjustment mechanism or something. I've got a call into my dealer so I'll let you know what he says.

I highly doubt there is an adjustment. I have a 98 and have to brake with my left foot when I drive with waders on, try that if it really bothers you it isn't hard to learn.

Use left foot on the brake and right on the gas.

Well golllllll-ly! That never happened to ME! LOL!

Paul, it's a problem, but the good news is you DO learn to overcome it fairly quickly. I scared the snot out of myself and posted a very similar question here when I first got my Disco. In my case I was catching the gas peddle and not able to stop as expected due to revving the motor. I wondered at first if I'd had a brake failure. The good advice I got here was to go to a secluded road (mine qualified) and practice, and regain the confidence I needed in my Disco. I learned, it worked and I've never looked back at that problem. Try not to despair, and learn to love and trust your Disco again.

Karen :-)

I think the D2 has a large foot well, especially on the right side of the gas. As Karen suggested, experiment on a secluded road, and maybe try moving your right foot a little more towards the right. Then, it's a pronounced move to the brake.
I've not had any problems - but do drive with left foot / brake when driving in ski boots.

remove the pad from the gas pedal, you will get more room.

hehe. When I got ready to leave the dealer after purchasing my DII I had a similar experience. I got in, put my foot on the brake and turned it on. The needle on the tach immediately shot way over to the right!!! Yep, the "brake" pedal was actually the gas pedal.

I have to agree, the pedal placement is horrible. It's just something you have to get used to. FWIW.

Never even had this problem and I have pretty big feet sz 11.5 . But when I drive with my snowboard boots on it is a tottaly different story.

Jess,
I heard Clown College is accepting applications for people with big feet
