just pulled the plugs out of my '96 with 83K on the clock. these plugs have about 20-25K on them. truck seems to be running a little rich. good amount of carbon buildup on the exhaust tip. thinking i should change out the O2 sensors soon. sorry about the bad pic, but my camera does not like the macro mode. but on pretty much all the plugs one side of it is pretty heavily coated with carbon. ok.....bad......??

The less Carbon the better. Those plugs are fried, you could still drive on em but I would change them as soon as possible. Your milage is getting to the point where it is getting close to changing your 02 sensors. I'm not quite sure but I don't think you should be running plugs that long. Cmon man plugs are like 1.50 a piece. You could have easily saved that in gas if you had changed them before they got that old

About how often (mileage-wise) should you change the plugs?

I like to do it every 10-13k. But I could be overkillin it. I like to do it because I love the feel of difference between new plugs and old plugs

Garrett, i feel like i need to pull the plugs on my '96 with 125kmi and take a look at them - they haven't been touched for 70kmi now.

all in all, this one is pretty fouled up. just for the sake of comparison, the plugs in the '73 engine that's in my '79 jeep (that's running consistently rich) are by far cleaner - and i have never cleaned them up.

Factory schedule is 24,000 miles (If I remember correctly).

As for O2 sensors, I have 165K on mine, do I need to change them? No lights are on. Yeah, it's on the list...

Autolite plugs at Wal-Mart are $0.97/each!

Yeah I would say our 02 sensors need to be changed but at 165k what doesn't

yeah they looked a bit nasty, but the weird thing is they were not consistantly fouled. but regardless i changed them out with some Autolites. O2's have a life span of about 90-100K. that is always what i have heard and i think that will be next on my list. can't hurt. just wonder how rich i am running. thanks.
