Greetings all, I have a 1998 Disco and last night while driving I glanced down to see the time and it wasn't there. The next morning I looked at the clock and could see the time but barely. Question, do I have a defective bulb or should the unit be replaced? I've never heard of a bulb going bad....it usually works or it doesn't. Anu insight would be appreciated. |

Assuming it is the same clock as the '96...and they use the same bulbs.... Yes, these all-too-frequently burn out. It's a 1.2 watt bulb available from the LR dealer (part #BAU 5311L)for about $8...or from a Mercedes place for about $5. Exact same Osram bulb.... Or, you can buy two at your neighborhood RatShack for $.99. Of course, you have to be able to micro-solder the bare bulb into the little plastic carrier. Asuming the '98 is like the '96, the trick is removing the clock assembly. Slide thin plastic cards like a credit card top and bottom to release the mounting clips. Cheers |

If your wife/girldfriend has enough small arms, you dont need to disassemble clock from dash. Just open the fuse box and introduce the arm to reach clock lamp assembly. If once changed the light doesnt work, may be a small diode in the clock cardboard is burned. Then you have to replace it. Greetings from Argentina |
