do the '95 D1's, before the tweeters in the pillars, do they have an amp? or is it powered out of the in-dash? i just need to know, cuz my in-dash died, and i'm looking for aftermarket? where exactly is the amp if there is one?

my setup is the sub box on the back door and four 4" speakers...thanks

I have upgraded my stereo and they dont make an after market adapter for your speakers that I know of. It took me quite a while to figure the wires out for the tweets and all other speakers but it can be done. A good stereo shop will do it for about 50-75 bucks. as far as adding a sub, if your going to do that? I just tied into my amp located in the back door behind your stock 4" subs, and used an inline converter (local stereo shop will have this too) and what that does is turn speaker wires into RCA jacks for an after market amp and sub. I am running a pheonix gold 1000 watt amp with a 15" phoenix gold sub, pioneer stereo, replaced all speakers but the pillar tweets and it sounds unreal! The car is sealed so well its like a big speaker box. Good luck..

i have a 95 disco, and have installed a blapunkt head unit.i used a converter to step down speaker output so the factory amps, speakers, and sub amp/speakers could be used.i am not sure about your vehicle, but mine has the amps seperate from the deck from the factory.the factory amps are not audiophile quality, but will be ok as long as they function.upgrade when failure makes it necessary.my.02

My 95 D1 had a amp under the pass. side seat for the speakers in the door and the pillars. The subs in the door had it own amp mounted behind the speakers. Both amps have power running to them from wiring under the pass. side seat. Even if you don't have the amp the wires will be there. The main amp under the seat is fused, the second amp is wired in series so check that fuse and maybe you can get you stock radio to work. Also my stock radio has fuses in the back of it, check those. I have heard that equiptment on discos vary, but the wiring is still simlar. My 95 was built in 11/94, so mine maybe different than yours. The amp inputs from the head unit are low power inputs. So if you get a new radio and want to use the factory amps, you need to use the RCA jacks from the new radio. Radio shack sells rca jacks the aren't coaxial cable so you can splice into the factory radios non-RCA type low power outputs. Other wise you might put to much power into those amps and get disortion at the speakers. I have a factory cd changer and really liked the buttons on the stteering colume. I just pulled out my factory amps. I bought two woofers from Radio Shack for the rear sub holes which were 5 1/4". The speakers took some persuation but went in okay. The pillar speakers are 5 1/4", I put in some inexpensive pioneers. The doors are 4"? I can't remember so double check that. Anyway I bought off of ebay a cheap 5 channel alpine amp. I use the stock wiring to the speakers, even the subs, to run power to the speakers. Then use the factory power and factory remote turn on wires. I then bought non-coaxle RCA cables from Radio Shack and cut one side off and used bullet connectors to the head unit, the other side routed along the factory wiring which runs down the pass. door sill. The amp is like 40 watts x 4 and the sub 60 watts mono. I don't get any niose from the alternator in the amp. Sounds great to me, and was simple and I spent like $150 for 6 speakers and an amp plus wiring. My truck is noisy enough with a big roof rack and lights. Besides cars in general make to much noise for good audio, plus speaker limitations. Invest in a good home system if your an audiofile, say your truck stereo money for off roads mods. At least IMHO.
