While driving my '94 Disco at normal operating
temps, the center console (where the shifters are)gets very warm. Seems to be a lot of the heat coming from underneath the automatic transmission shifter.

Any ideas why and how to correct? Thank you!

The reason it gets hot is that heater ducts to rear passenger feet run thru sides of console. This is the way it is designed.

In the summer, I've been mildly burned by grabbing the metal on the shifter. Unlike Pavlov's dogs though, I do it over and over again... like loosing my gas cap.

Speaking of... does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the gas cap from getting lost? It never fails that when the kids are screaming for slurpees and the wife is antsy to roll out, I forget my gas cap. I've lost it twice in the last 2 months and have had to purchase new ones both times.

You can buy the one that is tethered to the neck of the gas intake.

Britt - I've not been able to find one the last couple of go-rounds... know who carries them by chance?

oh c'mon how hard is it to make your own tehthered one. maybe 2 min. I don't now or is it just me that thinks saving on the cost of a new gas cap is worth the 2 min time of making your own

Ohh, I'll definately MacGuyver up the next one that arrives but if I could find one that already had the plastic figure 8 on it, it would look better than anything I'd engineer with a piece of string and bubble gum. ;-)
