Thats one persons opions. If you read further he goes into how he use to own a defender etc. I do agree about about the price of Defenders. I do not agree about 96-97 being the weakest years for Discos.

I think the guy that owns that site posts to the roversnorth board quite a bit in the disco/rangi section.

He does post there often.

FYI - My post was follow up to a newbie who was asking questions about D1's and 2. After I made my post, his disappeared. Weird?

I have a '97m Disco bought off a lease. It was obviously treated like a whore. My wife experienced the steerin failing, a failed bushing (?)and was lucky not to wreck. I have put a good amount of money into fixing leaks as well. There is certainly a difference between a vehicle that was bought to keep versus one that simply had to last until turn-in...

I think the above link is good advice. Will every malady mentioned happen to you? Probably not. But if the vehicle is not well maintained, either while you own it or by the previous owner, you may certainly be at increased risk to experience what was listed.

Heck, if the Rover was perfect, why even have a tech section?

I too think it's pretty sound information. Every car I've owned has suffered from some of the "typical" issues detailed by the enthusiast, or mechanics who frequent sites like discoweb, or in the case of Volvo, brickboard.com.
Doesn't mean they are bad vehicles, just prone to certain things - may or may not happen to yours.
Gotta take the good with the bad, and it's better to be forewarned - much easier to take preventive measures, or make necessary maintenance before its major.
My 2 cents plus.

Jack
