I was talking to the service dept. at LR Richmond and they told me that you can't flush a radiator on Discovery's. Something about not having a drain plug? All the local places say that they can and have flushed discos before...what the hell? Thanks |

LOL. That was funny Jaime. Customers should start invoicing dealerships for "new" info. Just mail it and see what they say... |

I'll never go back to LR RIchmond again for service. That's same kind of bullshit they fed me for 6 months. They will tell you anything just to get you in and out. |

Bwaaaaaahahahahaha!!!! There's always an INLET and an OUTLET on a radiator. Heck, even if there wasn't a drain plug, you could always pull the bottom hose and still flush it. Then again, I'd expect when Lucas braches away from electronics, they may opt to perfect the one-way radiator |

You are going to find more and more cars being built without drain plugs in the radiator. There are two ways you are expected to service such vehicles, both of which actually work better than the old drain and fill methods. First, they (Snap On, Matco, etc tool trucks) sell a portable tool for about $150 that uses compressed air to suck the system empty under vacuum. They say this removes more coolant than the old drain method becuase it empties the block better. Also, you get an exact measure of how much was removed. Then the system pulls a vacuum and they use that to suck the new coolant back in. You know right away if you put back the same amount you took out and you are much less likely to get air pockets. This is really an excellent innovation. We don't miss those drains at all on the new cars that lack them. BMW was especially troublesome with getting the air out of the system the old way. Now they are easy. ** The second system, which is much more costly, uses a machine to pump coolant through a filter using the heater connections. These machines claim to recycle by filtering and using additives but I an dubious of them. |

I've seen something similar. Most .jp (wouldn't want to say Jap and offend Ken) service stations have a sytem that uses a vacuum for all of the major fluids (oil, ATF, and coolant). Pretty interesting to watch them change all the fluids and never touch a drain plug. |
