I was talking to a LR service rep about disconnecting the ABS pump in case of an ABS failure on the trail. He claims that this will cause many fault codes on my D1, and I should not do it - not even in an emergency. Having read many posts about disconnecting the ABS pump at the electrical multi-adapter I know that many people have done it. Anyone have any problems?

Mark

I pull the fuse (5amp on the top satellite). I've probably done it a ton and only just the other day did my check engine light come on registering an ABS fault on the OBDII, not a big deal the ABS was still working fine (thats a relative term w/ the sucky system on these trucks) and the light went away after a few starts w/ no fault registering.

I had a problem where the pump was constantly cycling so I just pulled the fuse until I could figure it out. Normal braking, no ABS, no faults on a '94 D1. A few weeks later I reseated the right sensor and ABS back to normal.

pull the fuse under the hood...will not set codes. pull the one under the dash and it will set off your check engine light.

No check engine light, but the ABS light has been illuminated for the past two years and 60K miles.

Just wait, it will fail.

wonder if the rep was thinking about a DII? with the all the ETC and HDC and everything tied into the ABS system, might be a little more serious to pull the plug on the system? just thinking aloud.

I thought the rep was talking DII as well, but not so. It just seemed a little difficult to believe - that's why I posted it here. Every time I talk with the people at LR Denver East, I come away feeling a little slimed.
Thanks for the info. I think I will go for the fuse under the hood.

96 D1. Pulled the plug on the ABS module. Have ABS light on the dash. No other ill effects. Not even ABS. :-) It's been like that for 2 years.

I have a '95 D1 and my abs sensor went. I can't believe how much better this thing brakes without the abs! How can I get the ABS light to go off? It's right in the middle of the dash and bright amber. Don't want to just put tape over it, any other way to turn it off??? Thanx

I took the dash cover over the instrument pannel off and pulled the indicator bulb. It only takes a couple screws and about 5-10 minutes. I hated that light and it made the chicks nervous. MJ

LOL, Thanks Mike I'll try that. Yeah, makes me nervous too! LOL Makes people think you abuse your vehicle. Someone actually asked if I had brakes, LOL.
