i just put on some 255/85 trxus tires, and equal.
For the past 3 weeks that i've had them i probably haven't gotten over 55 in my short commute to campus. I came home this weekend and when I get over 55 it starts shaking, kind of like when i had my old swampers (bias) and i would go the first mile or so and they were rough because they had "flat spots". It shakes the truck and i was wondering if the guys didn't put the equal in right, or if i've developed vibes. I have OME HD but for the past year haven't had any vibes. I didn't watch them put the equal in but i did go over it with the "clean suit" guy behind the counter, and the head "grease monkey w/ no brains" mechanic. It was raining like a monsoon last night the whole way home, bad enough that i had to use my KC's but i don't know if that would have caused it, (i doubt it just a suggestion). Or could it just be the bigger tires, but the trxus are supposed to ride better.
If its just the tires that cool because i liked the load moan and the rough ride that my swampers gave, but if its unbalanced tires or vibes i'd like to know.
thnx

Put it in right?

You drop a packet in and change a valve stem...How's your alignment? Any Mud or ice on your wheels?

My TrXus ride GREAT and I have a unibody rig.

By the way, anyone have a solution to the crappy air-down times with the equal stems? I was all set to run it but it takes a month of sundays to air down...(at least on the mog we were running with....)

The only thing to really help the air down problem is to give a good squirt of air into the valve stem (the ones you are instructed to have with Equal) then air down. This clears the stem of any of it on the filter of the stem.

As for Blake, the Equal will feel unbalanced for a bit as the bag waits to break but it should have busted by now. I really don't know unless they did not put it in at all. Anyone with a suggestion on how to check if it is in the tire? Maybe email Ho to see what he says.

I'd say that the bags may not have broken yet. I have equal in 245/75/R16s. They were rough for the first 20 miles or so. They are still rough when the tires are cold. Once they warm up, everything is very smooth.

My Equal filled 235/85r/16s still have what is best described as a balance wobble at 55 - 65 and through raked sweeping curves months after I put it in.

I'll be going back to conventional weights when I do my brakes next week. I think I gave Equal a good college try, but I wouldn't run it again.

I had a problem with my 97 disco when it got up to 65 mph. I either had to go 60 or 70 but nothing in between or the car would shake.

I took it to discount tires and had all the tires rebalanced and rotated. It solved the problem.

hey Blake, I have this problem and thought it was my tires w/ equal but I put my michelins back on (balanced w/ weights) and it was still there. It isn't my drive shafts either. I have been told to try changing the front radius arm and panhard rod bushings, which I will be doing as soon as they get here from Nathan. I'll let you know what happens

Well another option is that you have an 'oval' tyre (or tyres).... that is what happened with my car. I bought 3 new tyres and I used my spare tyre (same brand, same type)...

When I hit the highroad and go up to 120km/h everything went smooth, but above this speed my car felt unbalanced and it was no fun driving...

Solution? I got the presure out of my tyres, until 0.5BAR, I drove a couple of rounds with my car. And as you can imagine, they became REALLY WARM!!! After this ride, we put the car on blocks, pumped up the tyres to a high pressure (4.0BAR) and whoila: problem solved!!

Perhaps this is a solution too

Blake,

on the RR with 235 TrXus MTs have a similiar situation. my feeling is the Interco tires are really heavy vs BFGs and others. What is recommended for "normal" tires might not be enough Equal for Intercos.

On mine, everything is in balance up to about 63mph and then the shakes start to happen. I'm going to add 1 more oz. all around and see what happens. feel pretty confident the shakes will go away. at least I hope so as the Equal concept is very good - probably better than the tires!

How can you add 1 oz. of Equal to the Tires? That might be something for me to try too.

Thanks,
Mike B.
