So, I'm in the market for sliders. cost is certainly a consideration - especially adding shipping to Arizona. I'm checking with various folks (rovertym (first choice), safarigard, adeofob and rockware to see about shipping costs so I can get a sense on overall cost. I have searched the archives and have a good sense of what's best, but I have a few nagging questions I need answered before I part with loads of cash. The cheap bastard in me (sorry to steal that phrase from whomever uses it) is curious about the DAP sliders for $220. Even AtlanticBritish has a pair for $419. How different can a few pieces of heavy metal actually be? I ask more or less rhetorically. (I generally am a "you get what you pay for person," thus my suspicion of the cheaper products) thanks, jeff |

I don't know about their sliders, but I've bought some running board from them and was VERY pleased with them. I though they were better built than OEM and fit just perfect. The added plus was they were over 50 percent less than everyone else. Talk with Lou there and he can explain their differences. I've also bought many other things since then and have been very pleased with their stuff. |

I bought a set. If you plan to use them you need to beef the mounts. thatchedroofgarage.com has the same sliders for less $$ Ron |

Hi Ron, the pics of the sliders look like they drop down quite a bit, is that an illusion, or do you lose quite a bit of clearance with these? Also, how do you need to beef up the mounts? thanks, jeff |

I just made a set for my 97 disco. About 60.00 in metal 20.00 in hardware, and about 10 hours. Of course I had the welder, grinder and drill press. |

i searched about the dap sliders and emailed a guy from discoweb. this was his response the question, how did you like your DAP sliders, etc. "I had a set of DAP sliders on my truck for a short while. I was traversing some rocks and dented my front quarter when I bumped my slider. They are good for looks but do not offer very much protection. They are mounted by arms much like running boards in stead of how traditional sliders are bolted through the door sills. You could probably modify them so you could get protection but I might be less trouble just buying a more expensive set. Let me know if you have any other questions."

Ok, DAP seem like not the best choice, as one would suspect. Anybody have first hand experience regarding ease of installation and quality with the products from RoversNorth or Atlantic British? I've seen enough to answer these questions for Rovertym and Trek Outfitters and Safarigard, but have seen little on these other brands. I have read all the past threads, but they really don't answer my questions. thanks, jeff |

Jeff- What kind of Disco do you have? I've got a set of Rovertym sliders for a Disco 2 for sale. I'm in Southern California. Shipping would be free if you were willing to come pick up! |

Hey isn't DAP the same company that made the "SAVE DARBY" Lift Kit? |

That was me that Blake quoted. I really don't care to go into another long explanation. I you are seriously thinking about purchasing a set, do your homework and read some of the archived threads on this subject. The bottom line, Two thumbs down. |

"Two thumbs down." ----If you can't weld. Personally I like them because the ones I got were galvanized and won't rust and look like crap like all the others I have seen. Ron |

Ah Ron, that's why you get 'em powdercoated.

My wife's rockwares are powercoated and they still rusted on the bottom where they are scraped bad and where they are worn. Also I am worried they can rust inside out like a series frame. Galvanizing is pretty hard to scrap off and protects the inside. FWIW YMMV etc etc. Ron |

The best would be if you could get powdercoated over galvanized metal... Would the galvanized finish survive sandblasting prior to powdercoating? |

I don't think it would stick well. I have a rubberized undercoat over galvanized and it works well. This is the way all metal should be done. Ron |
