Got a water leak comming to my disco in through the rear post. Found the hole on the outside of the rear post where the water is comming in from. What is the best sealant to use. I have used various silicone sealants to touch up some of the tears on the back rear windows gaskets, but they only last around a year before they break away. Just wondering if there is a brand out there that is above all others for this application |

If you use polyurathane sealant from the marine industry, it should outlast the metal. The best I've used is the 3M 5200 poly-sealant available from many marine stores i.e. West Marine. I've even seen it at WalMart. It's workable but very sticky. I've used this stuff to glue and seal items on my boats below the waterline and it has held up to the pounding, flexing, saltwater and the UV rays. It's so strong, I used it to fix a crack in the bottom of an aluminum boat used to own. That was over 10 years ago. I gave the boat to a friend, and every so often (when we're trout fishing) we talk about fixing the crack right one day. Then we drink another beer and catch trout.. So unless Lucas got a hold of it, it should hold up to a Land Rover... Just make sure you clean the area of all the silicone first.. |
