My girlfriend has a '96 Disco w/ ARB, winch, OME, 245/75. Recently, her truck has begun to have problems starting. When the truck has been sitting still for a long time and you go to crank it, the engine just turns over with no sign of starting for a good 8-10 seconds. Then you have to give it a little gas and it'll start up, hesitantly much of the time. Anyone know what it is that would cause this? Already replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, and had the engine flushed (not trying to solve this problem). thanks, Brad |

I suggest a fuel pressure test - look for a problem with the pump or the regulator. Also, I would check the ECU for any stored faults that may be relevant to the problem. For your symptom those would be the first steps. John www.robisonservice.com

I have an OBDII scanning program that hooks up to a laptop and there were no fault codes from that. Any other ideas? |

I still suggest the fuel system tests. Fuel pressure problems may not set faults in the ECU. |

Hey Brad, I have the same problem and I am trying to fix it. My 96 disco does the same thing. I have been told that it is a loss in fuel pressure. There-for when it sits for awhile the fule drains back into the tank. So after sitting for awhile there is not fule in the injectors to start it. So by cranking it over you bring the fule from the tank back to the injector system. So the problem could be the fuel pump, or a couple of injectors. So if you have a leaky injector you can have the same problem. But what also comes with the leaky injector is some smoke when your car does finally start, and that smoke smells like gas. Please let me know what you find out. I have not fixed mine yet. Thx. Mark |

Check the nipple that the photo below is pointing to. if that's leaking, you'll need to replace the core. it's a simple fix. i had the exact same problem you're describing and that's all i had to do to fix it. $5, for the screw driver and cores. let me know if you need a hand.

christ! how small do these pics have to be?? The nipple looks like a tire air valve on the passenger side of the block. it's on an aluminium hose. check to see if there's any fluid (gas) coming out of that. |
