I am a complete newbie to 4WD, so please bear with me.

I have a 94 Disco and was wondering how do you know if you are driving in HI or LO? My HI-LO linkage is a bit sloppy, so based on the position of the lever it's tough to know.

So in other words, how can I tell if I am in HI or LO?

Thank you!

It is night and day i.e. Hi and Lo. At Lo range you will definitely feel the gear reduction (higher rpm and lower speed) vs. Hi range (lower rpm and higher speed). Good luck sorting it out.

Phil,

Thank you for your input.

If I am on the highway driving at 65 MPH, what should the approximate RPMs be if in HI versus LO?

Thank you again (especially for not poking fun :-)

I have not tried going 65mph on Lo range nor will I attempt to do this if not impossible. Hopefully others with a '94 will chime-in but IMO.

Final question for you.
At 65 mph or so (in HI, of course), what should the approximate RPMs be?

Thanks again!

Just what I was trying to say in my earlier post that it is not possible that you are in Lo at 65 mph. I sis not finish my sentence "...but IMO."

Carter - you da man BTW, isn't early where you are?

In Hi at 65 mph your revs will be about 2500 to 3000. In Lo your engine will be following you, bouncing along in a cloud of ash and smoke, as you role to a halt:-)

Dean, very nice visual. Yes...if you are going 65 you are in high, unless..hhhmmmm...down a very very steep hill and about to die.
