My wipers started this funky thing, and I fear maybe the motor is going/?

I can put them on high or low and they work fine, but if i use the mist, or INT setting, they kinda stall ( for lack of better term) in the middle of the windshield, almost like the motor doesnt have enough power to bring them back down where they belong.

any thoughts/.
if its the motor, is it sna easy replace?

thanks, josh

Is it really cold when that happens, because mine does the same, but only when it's around 30-40 degrees (F). I live in Texas though, so it doesn't happen too much.

I would like to know the problem too.

Your motor is probably going. My wipers were doing the same thing to me when I was driving from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Mine went out in October and had the dealership fix it under warranty.

your motor is going...

i have a 95 that used to do that... i would have to pull over. manually push the wiper blades, then get back in and turn the wipers on... then it would magically start working....

did this for a few months, then in the middle (yes murphy's law was with me...) of the biggest damn rain storm... on my way to work... it happened again... i got out, tried to manually push it, when all of a sudden the whole thing just gave way (went limp) AKA died...

crawled home... took it to my mechanic. he ordered the $198 + tax motor and chged me 3hs labor @ $98 p/h (good ol Nor California rates) aka the whole job cost just shy of $800....

one more feather in my wifes "when u gonna get rid of that damn thing" banter.... ugh

Josh!
Try lubricating the linkages w/WD40 before subscribing to the renew motor-theme...this seems to happen to lots of people, and fixes quite cheap. Usually enough to spray as far as you can without dismantling anything.

If it works in every setting but intermitant and it won't auto park (meaning that if you turn the wipers off while they are not in the parked position they stop wherever they are rather than retuning to home) then the switch made into the motor has died. There is no known replacement (not by me anyway) except for the whole assembly. Good news is, this is an easy repair. The whole assembly comes off in one piece from the outside of the firewall. Make sure you get the wiring pigtail. At some point they changed the pinout on the wipers and you need an adapter for less new trucks (I did for the 97, a very new truck probably would not require it).

I have been meaning to cut the old one apart and have a look at that switch but just not enough time lately.
