'96 DI. The code was 0125..."Engine Coolant Temp Sensor Warm Up Fault". I replaced the Temp Sensor. The light is still on. If there is a second code being sent, would the first OBDII reading have told me this or do I need a 2nd reading?

If I replaced this thing correctly, would the light have reset itself or do I need to be a bit more 'proactive'? If I need to take action to reset this light, what would I have to do?

Did a search and found some ideas, but I'm not sure what the next step is...

Thanks for your time in advance...I'm new to this Discovery and finding my way along slowly but surely. The help this site has offered me so far has been great.

Mike

I believe if you disconnect the Pos battery lead and leave off for 30 mins it'll reset all settings to factory default.
Make sure you have your radio security code hany.
You will also have to prgram your remote key fo by preesing it 4 times to reinstate the communication.

Occasionally I've been getting the same code and plan to replace the sensor too. Was this an easy task? Where did you get your sensor? I've got an OBDII reader and have reset the code through the laptop.

yes you need an OBDII reader to reset. the other 'trick' only works for '95 and older (OBDI) trucks. if the problem is fixed and you don't want to have it reset it will reset itself after it 'cycles' a time or two.
black electrical tape works too.

Tom...assuming I did it correctly, it was a piece of cake. Got the new sensor from AutoZone (who also did the OBDII reading). Found the sensor right in front of the engine block, right on top. Pop the clip off, remove the wire, then just wrench the thing off. I put some thread-lock on the new sensor then reversed the process.

RE: Resetting with an OBDII...anybody think AutoZone would be so kind as to reset it for me?? If it doesn't reset after a while, can I assume that I didn't fix the problem?

Thx,
Mike

I've given serious consideration to that electrical tape suggestion also GP!! Failing that, an emergency bulbectomy.

Hey Mike,

Did your truck have any symptoms, or issues, or did you just have a check engine light that led to the sensor's replacment? I've got the same code, along with some misfire codes, but was unclear how if at all this sensor might effect the way the truck runs/performs. Thanx...

A lot of auto supplies now reset code for free, especially if you just bought something.
Barring that I just bought a obd2 code reader fron advanced and can read and reset my own now.
Hope this helps
Gordon

When I get 0125 there are no noticable symptoms.

Mike, as suggested previously, you can either have someone to reset it for you, or you can bring your vehicle to full warm-up (Land Rover rec's 45 min's of drive time) multiple times. However, I believe it is someting closer to 13 times, not just 2 times. If the problem no longer exists, it will eventually go out.

P0125 is a DUMMY FAULT! There is nothing wrong with the vehicle. If you replace the prom with the updated one (~$100) it will go away. Or just don't let the truck idle when it is cold (this is what I do).

:-)

Ron

PS it is 3 full drive cycles to clear, it stores for 30 without keeping the light on.

PS whoever told you to replace the sensor should be shot.

If it was a dealer go back and complain, they should know better.

What to do when you get the P0125, excessive time to warmup:

1 - check to see if your GEMS ECU has the most up-to-date PROM. Update if necessary.
2 - replace thermostat
3 - replace coolant sensor
4 - replace fan clutch

In order, that's what you should do to fix that code.

Got a quick one for yaa... i get a P0420 and P0430 as "Catalyst below threshold". Are these emissions codes? I do have a little hole in my muffler. Would this cause these codes?

Thanks to everyone...

Ron, The folks at AutoZone told me to replace the sensor.

I drive approx 30 mins at a time to and from work, rarely longer than that. Perhaps that is not long enough to count as a full cycle so it hasn't reset?

John & Ron, RE: the PROM suggestion...How do I verify whether I have the most up to date PROM?

Thanks again...Mike
